As part of the Department's efforts to provide holistic growth for our postgraduate students, a symposium was held on 20 May 2026. Dr Pheladi Mohala from Sasol SA gave a key note lecture on the topic "Entrepreneurship in the Era of Climate Change and Sustainability Transitions”. This was an insightful session show casing the value of thinking beyond knowledge generation but looking at how we can work together to transform our society for the future.

Our students presented their research and a platform was created for constructive scientific feedback amongst other students and academic staff. We heard a doctoral defense dry run, progress updates and new project proposals being presented. Our students demonstrated their knowledge, resilience and growth as they work toward becoming better researchers who are committed to growing and making an impact. Kamogelo Malata (1st place), Ayanda Shabangu (2nd place) and Thobane Godlo (3rd place) took home the prizes sponsored by Poretech.

Our symposiums are an enjoyable time for staff and students where someone always learns something.
