Through her powerful portrayal of Sarafina in the iconic film Sarafina!, Leleti Khumalo brought the spirit, courage and pain of the 1976 Soweto Uprising to life.

Her performance made generations of South Africans feel as though they were marching alongside the students who stood up against apartheid.

The film has become a Youth Day tradition and remains one of the most powerful tributes to the youth of 1976.

✊🏾🕊️ "Freedom is coming tomorrow" became more than just a song—it became a symbol of hope, resistance and the sacrifices made by young people for a better South Africa.
