Three UKZN Footballers Join Durban City FC
Following Durban City FCโs remarkable Nedbank Cup triumph and a strong debut season in the Betway Premiership, the club has further strengthened its relationship with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) by signing three student footballers to its DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad for the 2026/27 season.
Amukelwa Tau, Wandile Gigaba, and Lwandiso Yalo were officially unveiled during a special ceremony hosted at the UKZN Football Stadium on the Howard College campus on Wednesday evening.
The event highlighted the playersโ journey from university football into the professional ranks, showcasing the growing pathway between UKZN Sport and professional football opportunities in South Africa.
Representatives from both UKZN and Durban City FC praised the players for their achievements and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting student-athletes who excel both academically and on the field.
UKZN Executive Director for Corporate Relations, Dr Normah Zondo, described the occasion as an important milestone for the partnership between the two institutions.
โThis is a proud and exciting moment for the University. These players represent the talent, hard work, and potential that exists within UKZN, and we are thrilled to see them take the next step in their football careers,โ she said.
Durban City FC Chief Executive Officer, Younus Kadodia, also spoke about the importance of investing in young talent and building strong community partnerships.
โThis partnership reflects our vision of creating a sustainable football club that remains closely connected to the community. We are excited about the future and the opportunities this collaboration will continue to create,โ he said.
