So, my friend was telling me about her day, and I couldn't help but smile. She’s juggling her 9-5 job, taking care of her little one, and just trying to keep it all together. She had picked up her 9-year-old from school, and I swear, she looked like she had run a marathon. She said, "You know, raising a child is way more complex than I ever imagined."

She was feeling the financial strain—“It’s not just the basics. It’s the extra activities, tutoring, the school fees, the things they constantly need. It all adds up!” she said. "I swear, I didn’t realize how much these kids would cost me."

Then, of course, the moment her daughter jumps into the car, the flood of questions starts: “Why do birds fly? What’s the fastest animal? Can I wear my new dress tomorrow?” My friend laughed and said, “I swear, I was barely holding it together mentally. I’m still trying to figure out how to balance work, life, and being the best mom I can be—and this little one’s asking all these deep questions!”

When they got home, it didn’t get easier. There was dinner to make, homework to check, laundry to fold... all of it, on top of a long day at the office. “Physically, I’m drained,” she said. “But these kids need you. You can’t just collapse on the couch. You have to get up and keep going.”

She mentioned how much it really takes to be fully present for her daughter, how it’s not just about the everyday tasks but also about being emotionally and spiritually there for her, providing guidance, values, and all that good stuff. "I didn’t realize how much more of me I’d have to give, beyond the basics of food and clothes."

Finally, when it was bedtime and her daughter said, “I love you, Mommy,” she said all that exhaustion just melted away. “It’s tough, but this is the most rewarding job I’ll ever have,” she told me. And you could just see the love and pride in her eyes as she said it.

📚 Getting your child to read can sometimes feel like Mission Impossible—but it doesn’t have to be.
Every night, Thandi dreads homework time. She watches her classmates breeze through storybooks while she struggles to recognize simple words.

"Come on, sweetie, just try," her mom pleads, pointing at the words on the page.

Thandi sighs, her little fingers gripping the book tightly. "I can't. It's too hard."
