I was just having a discussion about personal finances and it popped into my head that this is the fundamental issue in business.

Too often people think that they can carry massive information in their heads - they simply can't.

This is why it is so important to develop a Business Plan and supplement it with a basic Cash Flow Projection. That will help the personal financial budget as part of this must be about Personal Drawings. What you spend on a bond and or rates. Any monthly expenses such as groceries, clothing, transport, communication (incl wifi, cell etc). Add to that entertainment and incidentals and you would be surprised by the final amount especially if you are accurately honest.

I see quite a lot of "interest" in the furthering of small business - in monetary terms. Those who want to gain benefit from talking are getting seen on TV. They talk in platitudes but none give the slightest inkling of how people will be reached and or given meaningful assistance.

The reason is simple: they don't know how to do it! They have no experience in what it takes to set up a practical process of assistance. They have never had to deal with the Taxman. They have not had personal experience of setting up a business and having to pay bills or plan for sustainable success and growth.

The talk is just that! The money spoken about - some R544m is an odd sum and one wonders how much of it will be put to practical use and how that use will ever be measured and reported?
