Workshop Time!
I'm running three free online workshops this September school holidays (I know that many of us are not taking holidays because exams are just around the corner), one for each of the big Cambridge papers I teach. You will need to have signed up on my website to actually get access to the link for joining, so don't miss out!
Four hours each, live, recorded, and no cost. AS English, IGCSE English, and IGCSE Mathematics. I'm not running a physics workshop because there are many people who cover physics already, but if you want physics in particular, message me and we can chat.
Monday 21 Sep — AS English (9093)
We will focus on all the things we do in AS English, with a special focus on Directed Writing and Comparative Analysis. I'll also be giving you frameworks for analysis that you can keep in your back pocket. Then there is a full timed practice with Cambridge marking criteria, and example student responses for you to mark your own work. My students can submit their work to me and I will mark it.
Who is it for? AS English students writing in October, and those writing next year. If you are a parent and you want to get better at helping your child, you are welcome too, even without your child. I just ask that you let the students be the first to answer questions.

Wednesday 23 Sep — IGCSE Maths (0580)
The goal is to go through the syllabus and touch on everything we can. I have data from what my students have struggled with over the years and I want to build up their understanding. We will be working on the whiteboard and we will be looking at why things are what they are, not just how to do it. This is a four hour session, but there is also so much that needs doing, so it's going to be quite tightly packed.
I want to spend time on understanding the questions, and I want to spend time on looking at what skills are needed for the questions. I want it to become less stressful in the moment to be faced with the questions. We will sketch, solve, and actually understand what the question wants. Same deal: I will give frameworks you can keep, timed practice, and marking criteria so you know exactly where the marks are. If you are writing this October or next year, this one is for you. Parents welcome on the same terms.

Friday 25 Sep — IGCSE English (0500)
We will be looking at writing and reading, and how to approach each in the exam; I'll also put some focus on how to manage exam timing well. We will be writing in class, looking at how to understand the questions, how to analyse the texts and make the summaries, and how to write something worth reading in the short amount of time available in the exam. I'll give you my annotation toolbox and the RAFP framework, then you write a full timed response. Same again: practice under exam conditions, marking criteria, example responses, and I will mark my own students' work.
