Gavin brought plenty of humour to some delicate and concerning subjects, leaving us with many “aha” moments and honest, practical takeaways. It was a privilege to learn from his years of experience in education and mentorship.

A huge thank you to Gavin for making the journey to present at Oakley House!

📣 Gavin will join us again in November for a talk aimed at educators, exploring mental health, burnout and how we can safeguard our own wellbeing. Watch this space for details! 👀

Diagnosed with autism as a child, Dr Emile Gouws has turned his lived experience into a powerful voice for inclusive education and neurodiversity worldwide.

In Part 2 of the online interview with Sonja Engelbrecht (Head of the Oakley House Training & Support Centre), Dr Gouws moves beyond his personal story to explore the heart of his international advocacy. He speaks candidly about connection, courage, and community, sharing practical insights to help parents and educators better support neurodivergent individuals.

What does true inclusion look like?

At Oakley House, we believe inclusion is more than a place, programme, or policy. It is a mindset that recognises each learner's strengths, values their individuality, and creates opportunities to belong, participate, and thrive.

In Sonja Engelbrecht's (Head of OHTC) latest 5-minute read blog, she explores why inclusion goes beyond being present in a classroom. It is about feeling seen, supported, and able to succeed.

If you're an educator, parent, therapist, or anyone passionate about creating environments where all learners can flourish, we invite you to read the full article.
