John Wesley Community Centre

The John Wesley Community Centre (JWCC) is a registered Non-profit and Public Benefit Organisation serving the community of Etwatwa and the greater Daveyton area in the East Rand. We support orphans and vulnerable children and their families infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, to enable them to reach their full potential and lead responsible adult lives. registered Non-profit and Public Benefit Organisation in Etwatwa and is an ideal venue from which to serve the escalating needs of the community. The JWCC HIV/AIDS Orphans Project has been designed to fall in line with the South African Government’s HIV/AIDS and STI Strategic Plan for South Africa. There is a major need to create a greater awareness of the plight of the children in the community, and to deepen the community’s desire to help families suffering from AIDS. There is also a great need to address the stigmatization of the disease which JWCC does well. The JWCC has remained focused on surrounding children with a well-structured, holistic program to ensure that families are able to function as normally as possible in the circumstances. The training and education programmes and interaction with the community has helped surround children with people who are able to give the appropriate and sensitive support. The biggest impact that JWCC has on the community and lives of the children is through the activities that take place at the Centre. JWCC provides an amazing After-Care facility and expanded education, sports, music and cultural program to the children, building into the children’s lives and giving them opportunities for a better future. A number of children are reached through the Home-Based Care Program where they are told about the Centre and are encouraged to come and receive food, education, support and to take part in the extra mural activities. Social support services are provided to the community through the Home Based Care program, sponsored by the Department of Social Development, and through the services provided by our social auxiliary workers through our dedicated social services and counselling facility. The Centre is also developing an Enterprise Development Program and is currently providing training and work area facilities for various employment creation projects.
