A great day for the project!

We gave 50 spekboom a new home, this pushes our total number of planted spekkies to 216, we need to plant 24 more to hit our goal of 240! 🌱

Also, did you notice how we planted the spekboom?
Spekboom thrive when planted 10-15cm apart in a hedge-like formation. 👩‍🌾

We continue our quest to plant spekboom around the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital by adding another 4 spekboom. 🏥🌱

We’re standing at 143 spekboom!

Our current carbon sequestration rate (long-term storage of carbon dioxide):
1x mature spekboom = 1,32kg’s per year
143x mature spekboom = 331,76kg’s per year

Why are we doing this?

With the rise in global surface temperatures, plants are exposed to an environment that has become increasingly hostile. Spekboom are the perfect solution. The plants have adapted to surviving in extremely harsh conditions due to their unique photosynthesis process.

Thanks to Rachael, we have one little spekboom in the ground! We now stand at 104 spekboom planted. 🌱

This image is a great example on how simple it is to propagate the spekboom plant:

Step 1: Cut off a piece from a mature spekboom plant.
Step 2: Let the cutting dry out for one day and then stick it half a finger deep into the ground.

Please note:
The planting of spekboom in the wild is a threat to indigenous fauna and flora. ⚠️
