How do you enrol your child at Tina Cowley Reading Centre?
The first step is an evaluation. This helps us understand your child’s current reading skills so we can find the best starting point to support their reading journey.
To book an evaluation or get more information, you can contact us via
WhatsApp message: 0823908514
Tel: 082398514
Email: [email protected]
Once you contact us, we will schedule the evaluation. Evaluations are usually done in the morning when children are still fresh and focused. We also provide a letter of absence for the school afterwards.
During the evaluation, we assess your child’s basic reading skills, reading ability, and comprehension. With older students, we also do a scientific reading test to assess all the subskills of reading.
After the assessment, we provide feedback to parents, explain what we have noticed, and schedule your child’s reading therapy class times.
Reading therapy classes take place once a week for 1½ hours. During these sessions, we help children build confidence in spelling, reading, and comprehension, while also strengthening the foundational skills needed for successful reading through eye muscle exercises, memory exercises, and more.
Every child learns differently, and our goal is to support them with patience, encouragement, and personalised attention.

What does a Tina Cowley Evaluation involve?
Before a child is enrolled at one of our centres, we conduct a personal one-on-one evaluation to fully understand their current level and specific needs.
Key areas we assess:
• Reading ability (accuracy and comprehension)
• Phonetic awareness (sound recognition and processing)
• Visual skills (form perception, eye movement and focus)
• Auditory memory (listening and recall)
• Concentration and attention span
• Spatial orientation and sequencing
• General processing and learning skills
For more advanced readers:
We also include a more scientific reading analysis, which evaluates the technical side of the reading process, including:
• Reading speed
• Comprehension level
• Eye stops and regressions
• How much of a word is recognised at the first eye stop
• Overall reading efficiency
Why is this important?
This allows us to:
• Identify strengths and challenges
• Place the child in the correct group
• Create a personalised development plan

Happy World Laughter Day!
Laughter has many benefits. Physically, it helps reduce stress hormones and relax the body. Mentally, it enhances mood and supports the development of social skills and emotional intelligence. There are also social benefits, such as building connections with others and boosting morale.
At Tina Cowley Reading Centre, we end each reading therapy session with a laughter therapy activity!
Fun fact: The brain can’t tell the difference between real and fake laughter, so you can still gain the benefits, even if you start with a fake laugh!
