Bright Sparks unlocks your academic potential by enhancing and reconfiguring reading skills. You will read faster, remember more and achieve higher.

Bright Sparks reading lab is a reading-skills development centre which makes use of an on-line reading software called Lab-on-line. Lab-on-line is the current market leader in reading solutions and remains cutting-edge as the first reading software to make use of cloud technology. Their research and development company, Ecoltech, has been working in this field since the 1980’s. There are 3 routes

to reading and it is our objective that all learners function in the automatic-visual route, which is the quickest and most effective route. Lab-on-line does this by creating new pathways in your brain. The following skills are developed:

1) Perceptual skills
The ability to give meaning to what is seen.
2) Visual Efficiency
This is the ability and stamina of eye movements and focus. Poor visual efficiency results in sore eyes, headaches, blurred vision or difficulty in concentrating.
3) Visual Accuracy
An integration between our central and peripheral vision systems. This is the ability to clearly process a word while locating the next word without it being jerky or losing your place.
4) Visual Memory
Being able to recall that which you’ve seen before. Once we’ve begun creating new pathways in the brain by stimulating the pre-reading techniques that’s when their reading speed and language and comprehension skills can progress. Lab-on-line has real-time reporting which reports on these aspects after each lesson. This provides the facilitator with the necessary information to identify the specific weak areas which need more attention. The facilitator is then able to address these weaknesses by use of additional resources. In order to ensure quality and individual attention we book a maximum of 5 learners at a time. The learners attend a 1 hour session each week and are required to do 1 lesson at home each week. In our centre they work on laptops, so we are taking technology and using it in a fun yet beneficial way. In total they will complete 20 lessons which is possible to do in a minimum of 3 months. Bright Sparks reading lab costs an affordable R 500 a month. Together we can assist every learner to read faster, understand more and achieve higher!

Today marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one.

It is with a grateful heart that I thank all the schools, teachers, learners and parents who have been a part of my Bright Sparks journey. The passed 3 and a half years have been so many things to me- enlightening, refreshing, exciting, empowering, challenging, inspiring and the list of wonderful adjectives could go on and on.

I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work alongside so many precious children, equipping them to realise their potential and it has been gratifying to say the least.

My heart for education will never cease and I will always be an activist for reading and literacy.

I trust that the invaluable lessons I've learnt and experience I've gained while running my own business will put me in good stead for my new career. Thank-you!

Just because your child had their eyes tested in Grade 1 doesn't mean they're set for their entire school career. One of the first things to do when seeking intervention for a learner - have their eyes tested!
