In the Music Roadshow Excursion conducted yesterday we visited some amazing South African music sites including the grave of Enoch Santonga (the author of “Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika”), Sophiatown, Market Theatre, Brenda Fassie and Kippie Morktsie’s bronzes and the Saxonworld Shebeen (for fun) 🙌🏼

SAW Day VIII: yesterday we hosted our 8th annual SAW Day. A day in which the Southdowns pupils immerse themselves in everything creative, stimulating out-of-the-box thinking. They were exposed to 25 workshops, everything from DJing to Graffiti, Tattooing, Hip-Hop Dancing, Embroidery and Paint-By-Numbers. What an amazing experience, seeing our pupils create on so many levels. 🙌🏼

SAW Week VIII- Assembly. Today the whole Southdowns Arts Community came out to celebrate the culture at the school at the SAW Assembly. The Art, Drama, Music and Dance communities brought all their talents together to create a beautiful assembly

Congratulations to Athina Mabaso, Ethan Cooper, Amantle Mmelesi and Ezreel Makondo who were the Performers of the Week for “Cosmic Week” with their rendition “Vibes Don’t Lie” originally by Leon Thomas. The Grade 11 band, The Sterilisers, were our band of the week for their rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing” originally by Journey and Onkgopotse Maditse, who was our Band Performer of the Week. 🙌🏼

Today we celebrated the school’s 18th birthday. Can’t believe how far we have come. It is mind blowing to see how we’ve grown and was so proud that Music played such a major part of proceedings today 🙌🏼🙏🏼
