What do you think Africa’s leadership space needs more of today?

11/06/2026

Have you ever had a mentor, coach, lecturer, or leader who genuinely changed the direction of your life?

What makes them impactful?

Africa’s coaching industry is growing rapidly but so are the concerns around it.

Globally, leadership and executive coaching is becoming one of the fastest-growing professional development sectors, with the market projected to exceed $229 billion by 2033 and currently valued at $116.47 Bn in 2026 writes Monica Shevgan.

Across Africa, more professionals and organisations are embracing coaching for leadership development, emotional intelligence, organisational culture, and personal growth. South Africa alone has seen increasing demand for qualified coaches and structured coaching education over the past two decades.

But growth brings important questions:

• Who is regulating quality and ethics?
• Are enough coaches receiving accredited training?
• Is coaching becoming accessible beyond executives and corporates?
• Are African realities, cultures, and lived experiences shaping coaching frameworks?
• Are we developing coaches — or simply producing content creators with coaching titles?

Research continues to show that effective coaching strengthens self-awareness, leadership capability, interpersonal effectiveness, and organisational performance.

At the same time, Africa still faces:

unequal access to professional development,
underutilisation of coaching in institutions,
affordability barriers,
and a growing need for ethical standards and competency-based practice.

The opportunity for Africa is not just to participate in the global coaching industry.

It is to help redefine it.

Not by copying imported models blindly, but by building coaching approaches grounded in African leadership, community, ethics, healing, and human development.

What do you think is the biggest challenge or opportunity in Africa’s coaching space right now?

What challenged you this week? And more importantly… what did it teach you?

Growth rarely happens in comfort. Sometimes the most difficult weeks shape the strongest leaders.

A goal might inspire you.
But systems create results.

So let’s reflect this morning in the comments.

What habit, routine, or system has helped you achieve the most growth as a leader and coach.

Great coaches don't just ask powerful questions.

Great coaches are also deeply aware of themselves.

One of the key competencies in coaching is the ability to recognise and manage your own emotions before helping others navigate theirs. Emotional awareness creates trust, strengthens relationships, and improves decision-making.
