Carolina Akademiese Skool Makes Its Mark at Iqhawe Puma Trials
Three talented young rugby players selected to represent Mpumalanga following a gruelling regional selection process.
CAROLINA, MPUMALANGA β Carolina Akademiese Skool is celebrating a proud achievement after three of its rugby players were selected for the Iqhawe Puma team following the Iqhawe Puma Trials held at Middelburg College on 18 August 2026.
Iqhawe, a division of Mpumalanga School Rugby, provides talented young rugby players with the opportunity to showcase their abilities and earn selection to represent their region and province.
The trials brought together approximately 80 boys from more than eight schools and teams across the region. The selection process proved to be a demanding test of skill, endurance, determination and character, lasting almost the entire day. At the end of the gruelling process, only 25 players were selected for the final team.
Among those selected were three outstanding players from Carolina Akademiese Skool:
* Meluthando Cele (15 - Fullback)
* Uyanda Sithole (11 - Left wing)
* Adian Groenewald (7 - Openside flanker)
In a particularly proud moment for the school, Carolina Akademiese Skool had the highest number of players selected from the participating schools and teams.
The achievement highlights the dedication of the players, the development of rugby at the school and the commitment required to compete against some of the region's most promising young talent.
From Carolina to the Provincial Stage
The boys' journey did not end with their selection. During the September school holidays, the selected players embarked on a rugby tour, departing on 25 September 2026, to represent not only Carolina Akademiese Skool but also the province of Mpumalanga.
The tour presented the young players with the opportunity to test themselves against strong opposition, including teams representing the Valke, the Limpopo Blue Bulls and the Griquas. These fixtures offered valuable experience, allowing the players to develop their skills, gain exposure to different styles of rugby and measure themselves against talented opposition from other regions.
For the three Carolina Akademiese Skool representatives, the tour marked an important milestone in their rugby journeys β an opportunity to wear the provincial colours with pride and demonstrate the talent emerging from their hometown.
A Proud Moment for Carolina Akademiese Skool
The selection of Meluthando Cele, Uyanda Sithole and Adian Groenewald is a significant achievement for Carolina Akademiese Skool. Their success serves as an inspiration to fellow learners and aspiring rugby players, demonstrating that commitment, hard work and perseverance can open doors to opportunities beyond the school environment.
As the school celebrates this accomplishment, the three boys carry with them the pride of their school, their community and Mpumalanga.
