https://bookamat.co/register/client/olivia-kebble-strong-mum-studios I graduated from UCT in 2014 as a Physiotherapist and spent the next decade working in private health care both in South Africa and the UK. I fell in love with Pilates whilst working in Scotland, and after achieving my APPI Matwork Level One, Two and Three certification, I soon started my own Pilates business along-side my Physiotherapy work. I couldn’t believe the life changing impact it had on myself and my clients. I soon started taking an interest in Women’s Health and saw the impact Pilates made on my maternity clients no matter the stage they were in. It was during my own journey into motherhood, after the most beautiful/ challenging unmedicated birth to my sweet boy, that I understood how much Pilates can truly change your life. My Aim: To prepare, to empower and help mums rediscover their bodies, their strength and their passions!

Things I DID or DIDN’T do that might have helped me have a positive birth experience 💫

I’ve been lucky enough to have had two unmediated natural births, and both without tearing…so here are some pretty trendy pregnancy things I did or didn’t do that might have helped me a little ✨

As always, birth is so unpredictable. There are a million components at play. You definitely need to have luck on your side BUT, there are a ton of things you can do throughout your pregnancy to give you the best shot at having the birth experience you want.

Here’s the list:
1. I didn’t do much walking, found it too uncomfortable near the end BUT I was still very active in other ways
2. I swear by the elliptical / cross trainer machine in the gym (game changer in those last few weeks)
3. I did NOT do perennial massage (too difficult and awkward)
4. I DID eat the dates, drink red raspberry leaf tea aaand harvested colostrum from 37 weeks
5. I physically prepared myself for birth from the START of my pregnancy (mindful of baby’s position in my belly, birth prep pilates, postpartum rehab prep, pregnancy core training, full body conditioning, cardio, weights, general pilates… I trained with purpose almost daily)

Whatever your birth may be, my hope is that is it a positive one, and if I can help a little to make that happen… my job is done 🥹

Sending all the love to my community of mums approaching their due dates/ due months… you’ve so got this ❤️

The third trimester is so often about getting ready for baby… but I think we should also talk about getting ready for you 🤍

The fourth trimester is beautiful, overwhelming, exhausting and completely life-changing; often all at once.

A few things I’d recommend doing before baby arrives:

🥘 Fill your freezer
👙 Get some good variety in your underwear drawer 😅
💤 Don’t worry too much about how poor your pregnancy sleep is
❤️ Spend proper quality time with your husband, partner, other kids
🧘‍♀️ Do the physical prep
🍼 Lower your PP expectations and prepare to embrace slowness

You don’t need to bounce back. You don’t need to keep the house perfect, see everyone, reply to every message or feel like yourself straight away.

Give yourself permission to slow down.

Your job in those early weeks is to recover, rest, feed your baby and bond with this new little being 💫

Prepare for baby - but prepare for postpartum YOU, too. 🤍

Week 3 postpartum 🤍 Starting to challenge my body a little more, but still very much taking it slow.

This week I’m beginning to challenge my core in different positions and work on building the endurance and durability I need for everyday life and exercise.

But I’m still not standing up to exercise just yet. There’s no prize for rushing the process.

I’m also paying even more attention to pelvic floor relaxation.

As that initial postpartum swelling and inflammation starts to settle, you can sometimes become more aware of symptoms that were masked in those early days - things like haemorrhoids, pressure or mild prolapse symptoms.

That’s why I’m really concentrating on what I’m feeling during the movement AND how my body responds afterwards.

This week, my movement has looked like:
🤍 One day Pilates
🤍 One day walking
🤍 Plenty of rest in between

Postpartum recovery isn’t linear, and more isn’t always better.

We’re looking for the sweet spot between challenging the body and giving it what it needs to heal.

Slowly, consistently, and with lots of listening🤍

Postpartum rehab doesn’t always look like a perfect 30-minute session on your mat. 🤍

Sometimes it looks like 5 minutes between feeds, with your toddler playing next to you, and doing whatever your body needs that day.

A few breaths.
A few movements.
A little bit of connection to your core and pelvic floor.

Those little mini movement bites throughout the day all count.

**BUT, remember you are retraining a very complex system so trying to FOCUS/ FEEL what you’re doing is essential to ensure effective rehab***

Postpartum recovery isn’t about perfection - it’s about consistency, patience and meeting yourself where you are.

Some days you’ll do more. Some days you’ll barely do anything.

And that’s okay. 🤍

Small + consistent > perfect + never.

Week 2 postpartum 🤍

This week, I’m starting to gently switch things back on.

After spending the first week focusing mainly on breathing, circulation and mobility, I’m now beginning to reconnect & engage with my pelvic floor & deep core, using my breath to bring everything back together.

I’m also starting to work on a bit of posture retraining like rib-to-pelvis positioning (something that can change significantly throughout pregnancy) while continuing with gentle mobility and, importantly, pelvic floor relaxation.

But recovery isn’t just about the exercise

I’m still living in my pyjamas. 😂
Only just left the house a day ago.
Life currently exists somewhere between the bed and the couch.
And I’m relying heavily on my village.

Second time around, I have an even greater appreciation for just how important this part is.

Rest isn’t doing nothing. It’s part of the work.

The goal isn’t to do everything as quickly as possible. It’s to give my body the time, movement and support it needs now, so hopefully I can avoid creating problems later.

Slowly rebuilding.
No rushing.
No bouncing back. 🤍

Week 3, I’ll show you what changes next.

1 week postpartum 🤍 and this is what recovery looks like for me right now.

As a physiotherapist and prenatal + postnatal Pilates specialist, I’m very aware of the temptation to do more as soon as you feel a little better. And that’s the OPPOSITE of what we need.

At one week week PP after my second unmediated, natural birth my priority is healing, not strengthening.

I’m focusing on:
✨ REST
✨ 360° breathing
✨ Gentle mobility

There’s no pressure to “activate”, strengthen or get back to exercise just yet. My body has just done something pretty incredible and it deserves time.

I’m aiming for this little routine once a day, but honestly… as and when I can between feeding, cuddles, bribing my toddler and newborn life. 🫶🏼

I’ll be sharing my postpartum journey week by week-the good, the uncomfortable and everything in between.

Welcome to my postpartum real-talk series. 🤍

A little “before we became four” 🤍 📸

Two weeks before Gigi arrived, Cindy | Cape Town Family Photographer captured these moments of our little family of three-one last chapter before everything changed.

So grateful to have these photos to look back on now. The bump, the cuddles, the little boy who made me a mum, and the three of us waiting to meet the newest member of our family.

Our last little glimpse of life as three✨

9am Pilates, 7pm birth… WILD. But shes here, our Gigi.🥹✨

Georgia Grace Kebble, welcome my darling!

Another beautifully overwhelming ride of birth…38+2, unmediated, no tearing, just a bit of gas and all the support from the best husband, midwives and gynae.

How lucky am I to hold you now forever my sweet girl 🤍🤍🤍

Also, thank god that’s over lol xx

Over & out… 🤍

And just like that, it’s time for me to swap Pilates cues for baby cuddles and take a little maternity leave.

To every mum who has shown up, moved with me, trusted me with her pregnancy, postpartum body, and everything in between- thank you. It has been such a privilege to be part of your journey.

I’m going to miss our classes, our chats, the wobbly bits, the strong bits, and all the little moments in between. 🥹

For now, I’m pressing pause, to meet our new little girl, and soaking up these very special newborn days.

But… this isn’t goodbye. 👀

I’ll be back before you know it. 🤍

Until then-keep moving, keep breathing, and keep those pelvic floors behaving.

Over & out,
Olivia x

A little look back at the last few weeks 🤍

I genuinely can’t thank everyone who has come along to these classes enough. Watching this little community grow, getting to move with you, chat with you, laugh with you (and of course, Pilates with you!) has been such a special part of my pregnancy.

And now, somehow, it’s nearly time for me to take a little break 🥹🎀

This Sunday will be my last class before I take a few weeks off to welcome our baby girl.

I’ll be back afterwards, properly and permanently-just with a new little sidekick this time 🤍

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, there are a few spots left for Sunday’s class. I’d absolutely love to see you there before I swap Pilates for newborn cuddles!
