FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM MR. HOFFMANN
Dear Parents and Guardians
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news with you that I will be leaving Simon's Town School, as I have accepted a position as Principal at another school closer to home.
I want to thank you for your continuous support during the past two years, and appeal to you to extend the same to the incoming leadership of the school. Be assured that the School Governing Body and the Metro South Education District have ensured that a capable and experienced person have been appointed as acting principal in the form of Mrs. L. Harrison as from 1 January 2023, until such time that the post is permanently filled.
This is a bitter sweet moment for me, because of all the accomplishments, as well as challenges that we have overcome as a team during my time as principal. I have built strong relationships with learners, parents, staff and the school community and always strived to make decisions based on what is in the best interest of our learners.
I was very fortunate to have served our school, our learners, parents and staff during the past two years as we collectively strived to ensure that our learners learn at a high level and can come to a school where they can feel safe and valued.
To our learners, I would like to wish you nothing but success, keep working hard, care for each other and keep honouring our school's motto: FAC ET SPERA (Do and Hope). Being an former learner (alumnus) of Simon's Town School myself, it will always have a very special place in my heart. The staff and school governing body have supported me in so many ways and for that I am forever grateful.
May God bless Simon's Town School.
Yours in education
Mr. L. Hoffmann

Dear Parents/Guardians
ABSENTEEISM DURING EXAMINATION PERIOD:
Learners whose attendance are affected by the current taxi strike or due to medical reasons, will have their absence recorded as ABSENT WITH A VALID REASON. This implies that they will not be disadvantaged during the current internal examinations, as the situation is beyond their (and our) control.
No child's end of year mark will be negatively affected by this, as the predetermined formula on the WCED recording sheets makes provision for instances such as these.
It is, however, important to note that it remains the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide proof that his/her child(ren) was absent with a valid reason. Examples of proof may include a sworn affidavit and/or a medical certificate.
We trust that the situation will return to 'normal' so that we can allow our learners to continue with the balance of the examination period in a calm and peaceful manner.
Regards
Mr. L. Hoffmann
