🌊 A massive thank you to the incredible learners of Germiston Primary School! 🏫💚

We had the best time learning how to protect our environment and recycle responsibly. One of our inspiring young guardians shared exactly why this work matters:

“Today I’ve learned that we need to pick up litter and put it in the right bins because it’s going into the ocean and our animals that we eat are getting sick. So I learned that we need to pick up paper and put it in the right place.”

You could certainly see their hard work in action: “You can see by my gloves. I really enjoyed it.” 😆

We are so incredibly proud of these brilliant students for stepping up, working hard, and leading the way toward a cleaner, healthier planet! Keep shining bright, future leaders! 🌟💪🏴‍☠️

We are incredibly grateful to our sponsor, Makosi, who we collaborated with to make this day possible. Through their global impact initiative, Makosi Ignite, we are partnering to drive meaningful change in local communities, focusing on one of their core pillars: the environment.

Together, we are teaching the next generation the hands-on importance of protecting, restoring, and sustaining our local environments. By equipping them with the 5 R’s (refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle), we are building sustainable habits that these students can take from their classrooms back to their homes.

🎣 YOU CLICKED. That’s the point: clickbait works because it looks irresistible, and so does single-use plastic. One quick sip, one takeaway container, one plastic bag, one “just this once” — but plastic does not disappear when we are done with it. It lingers in our streets, rivers and oceans for hundreds of years.

This Plastic Free July, Captain Fanplastic is asking you to break the habit. Refuse what you do not need. Reuse what you already have. Choose better where you can.

But we are not stopping at awareness.

is building toward a Captain Fanplastic special event in September, where we will use contemporary dance, fashion, movement and art to tackle plastic pollution and bring the community together.

In partnership with creative changemakers like Oorleef Dance Project, we want to use performance as a powerful way to show how single-use plastic hooks us — and how communities can break free.

We are looking for partners to help bring this vision to life. Schools, artists, community organisations, brands, venues and ocean champions — this is your invitation to join us.

For World Cleanup Day 2025, the Captain Fanplastic crew set sail to Mouille Point with 60 incredible young plastic pirates and our ocean friends — , and — for a morning of storytelling, ocean literacy, and of course, a beach clean-up! 💙🌍

🌍⚓ Captain Fanplastic x UNICEF Equatorial Guinea!

We’re thrilled to share first images of our partnership with UNICEF that will empower 1,500 children and train 40 adolescent facilitators across 20 youth centers, inspiring the next wave of eco-leaders to tackle plastic pollution and climate change. 💙🌱

Through storytelling, creativity, and clean-ups, kids will learn that there’s no such place as “away”, because . Together, we’re raising a new generation of “friendly pirates” who see that there’s truly .

This marks our impact in 13 countries and a step closer to our goal of reaching 1 million children by 2030. 🚀
