Important update for PACK Adult users πŸ“’
The contraception pages in PACK Adult 2025 have been updated to align with WCDHW Circular H25/2026, supporting collaborative implementation of important policy changes, ensuring frontline healthcare workers can quickly apply new guidance in clinical practice.
Purpose of the circular:
To provide practical guidance for healthcare workers who counsel, prescribe, or administer medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) injections, supporting informed decision-making about the risk of meningioma with long-term use.
Advice in PACK:
If using DMPA:
Advise that long-term use carries a low risk of meningioma.

If DMPA is used for > 2 years, review and discuss switching to an alternative contraceptive method other than long-acting injectable.
Please ensure you are using the updated guidance when counselling clients on injectable contraception. The updated ebook has been circulated via the WCDHW channels, and is also available via: https://knowledgetranslation.co.za/resources/

Last week Friday, our team joined thousands of voices across South Africa in standing against gender-based violence.

Dressed in black and lining the streets outside our office, we held our signs high, a small act of solidarity for a crisis that affects families, communities, and the health system every day.

Passing cars and trucks hooted in support, reminding us that this is a shared fight, and that collective action matters.

We remain committed to supporting a safer, more just South Africa for all.
