The Small Worlds shelves are looking incredible right now. Over the last few weeks we’ve watched tiny teapots, sleepy foxes, woolly sheep families, mushroom folk, and a whole cast of small, strange, and wonderful beings come to life across the studio. It’s been such a pleasure to see everyone’s small worlds take shape right through to their final form. With so many sweet ideas and characters emerging, we can’t wait to see it all come together as one collection!

We’re thrilled to share that Nada Spencer will be judging the Small Worlds challenge. Nada will look over every piece and choose her favourite, which will take home the R500 Clay Corner voucher.

Come appreciate, share, and celebrate the small worlds we’ve all created this term. We’ll announce Nada’s winner, put out some snacks, and just hang out as a community. No need to book — just come along. ✨

Our 10-week Wheel Throwing Foundation Course starts Thursday 8 October, and it’s a lovely place to begin, or to deepen the throwing skills you already have.

Over 10 weeks with Umi, our experienced facilitator, you’ll work through:
🤍 Wedging
🤍 Centering
🤍 Making a cylinder
🤍 Bowl form
🤍 Vase form
🤍 Trimming

The Wednesday morning class experimented with a fun glaze technique on the wheel!

Here we see Tash demonstrating how you can apply glaze using a syringe (rubber bulb or plastic disposable), while spinning your piece on a wheel. The technique works well for plates or bowls. Hot tip: make sure you attach your piece to the wheel or it could end badly 🤣

Watch until the end to see the glaze reveal after firing to 1200°C 🔥

The combo used for this bowl is: our Burgundy dip glaze (the whole piece was dipped in this first), then spirals with our Seaspray dip glaze and Ancient Jasper (Amaco paint-on).

One of our favourite forms of meditation is carving into clay.
There is so much chaos in the everyday, and time often moves by fast. Before you know it, you’ve reached the end of the week again.
There is an invitation that clay whispers-
Focus and let your mind quieten a bit.
Let your hands move decisively.
It’s okay to make a mistake, you can try again.
In the inevitable emotional ups and downs, find peace in the repetition of craft.
It’s okay to go slow and steady.
