Welcome to 2024! Brilliant start to the year!

Term 3! Here we come!

Days are getting longer but the mornings are still freezing!

We celebrated Human Rights day this week.

For us, at the AFL, education is key to so many important aspects of a person’s development. It is where the self is developed outside of the home and where the journey of learning begins!

We are strong believers of the right to an excellent education and we are proud that we are providing a space that allows so many little humans to grow and reach their best potential!

Each activity is carefully designed, planned and implemented in a multi-sensory experience.

A lovely example is seen below from our Grade R class- when learning about colours, teachers used essential oils to scent each colour with a fragrance that is associated with that colour, for example, yellow: lemon, purple: lavender, blue: peppermint, green: lemongrass etc.

By teaching this way, we heighten the brain’s response to what the children are learning. This provides a richer and deeper understanding of the topic, creating a strong foundation to build on.

Grade 6‘s shared their Modern Day Fairy Tales in assembly.

Peer modelling and learning from friends forms an essential part of skill acquisition.
Smaller classrooms with mix grade levels provide wonderful opportunities for this.

Every year is a fantastic year at the Academy for Learning.

But this year is an extra special year. We have our first graduating Grade 7s! There may only be three of them but they have made us incredibly proud!

Over the years, we have watched them grow since starting in the foundation phase. They have now blossomed into kind, resilient and passionate young people. All the hard work has definitely paid off. Below they can be seen looking over their class photos over the years.

We wish them good luck in high school and hope they visit us often!

Well Howdy There Term 4!

We are ready to go!

Here comes a happy, busy, beautiful term!

Mind-body connection provides space for improved self confidence and self awareness. The positive effects of this connection are so beneficial in providing a balanced, learning environment.

In other words: yoga helps us learn better!

We are excited for longer days and brighter mornings. 🌺🌼🌿

It is all about balance.

Hard work, play time. Outdoors play, screen time. Healthy foods, a well-deserving treat.

Yes we believe in homework and we are disciplined about it. But we also believe in longer play times. This allows our children to spend essential time with peers learning lessons that can’t be taught in any classroom.

Our goal at the end of the day is…

Kindness, resilience and a strong understanding of self.

At the Academy for Learning we believe strongly in balance. We believe it is this balance that helps children find true happiness.

Play is so important. From learning new sports to playing well-loved games, the AFL believes firmly in the importance of play time in a child’s overall development.

Our break times are an opportunity to connect with peers socially and to develop those important skills learnt outside of the class!
