On Friday 24th October MSED celebrated our phenomenal educators, mentors and coaches who go beyond the call of duty for our learners.

Agreement - with responsibility for psycho-educational service to a circuit of approx. 23 schools in the
district and reporting to the Senior Psychologist.

Requirements: Masterβs Degree in Psychology. Registration and proof of current registration with the Health
Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Psychologist. Education qualification and experience is a
recommendation; valid driverβs license.
Knowledge
National and Provincial Education legislation, policies and regulations. Inclusive Education Policies and guideline
documents. Analytic, diagnostic,
assessment tools, evaluation methods and processes. Research Methodology (Psychology). Personality Theories.
Counselling Models and Techniques.
Individual and Group Psychotherapy. Crisis Management. Protocol and professional ethics. Information and
Knowledge Management. Diversity Awareness.
Understanding of Group Dynamics Child Development. Knowledge of Life Orientation.
Skills
Organizing and planning. Project planning. Psychotherapeutic intervention. Trauma de-briefing. Report writing.
Computer literacy. Presentation and facilitation. Problem solving and analyzing. Interpersonal. Communication
and language (at least 2 Official languages). Consultation. Client orientation and customer focus.
Key Performance Areas:
Train teachers, parents and support staff in the early identification of psychological barriers to learning and
development. Train teachers, parents and support staff to manage learners who have been identified as
experiencing psychological barriers to learning and development (e.g. Individual Support Plan (ISP) /
Group Support Plan (GSP). Develop and implement preventative programmes that address and / or prevent
psychological barriers to learning and development. Implementation of Inclusive Policies including the Screening,
Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS) policy. Report quarterly on the implementation of psychological
programmes for early identification of and interventions relating to barriers for learning and special needs to the
Senior Education Psychologist. Provide specialized psychological support to strengthen District- and School-Based
Support Teams (DBSTs/SBSTs). Participate in inter- and intra-sectoral networks and collaborations.
