“Though you may no longer walk through our school corridors, your presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.”

The Dominican School for Deaf Children extends our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of our former learner, Martie following her passing.

May the memories shared, the lives touched, and the love given bring comfort during this difficult time. May you rest peacefully, and may your legacy continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew you.

TRIBUTE TO MARLENE JOAN PRINS

Today, the Dominican School for Deaf Children family comes together to celebrate the life and honour the memory of Marlene Joan Prins.

Joan taught at Dominican School for Deaf Children from 1976 until her retirement in December 2004.

Over 28 years, Joan taught many learners, especially those with additional disabilities. With compassion, patience, and firm guidance, she helped them overcome challenges and make meaningful progress.
In 1989, Joan completed a Diploma in Specialised Education at UNISA, focusing on Deaf education—one of the few educators to do so at the time. She also managed the Technical section, Art department, and library with dedication and great attention to detail.

A former principal described Joan as someone who provided outstanding service, built excellent relationships with staff and learners, and was always willing to help others. These were the same qualities that made her a valued colleague and a treasured friend.

We remember Joan as a kind, elegant, and motherly colleague who inspired and guided many of us as young teachers. She believed in every learner, encouraged them to do their best, and took great pride in her work.

Beyond the classroom, Joan was a wonderful listener with a gentle sense of humour, always ready with wise advice and honest encouragement. She lived her faith through her kindness, compassion, and unwavering values.

Her family meant everything to her, and she shared their joys and challenges with us as friends. Above all, we will remember Joan for her gentle spirit, generosity, and the lasting impact she had on everyone who knew her.

To the Dominican Family, Joan was more than a colleague. She was a cherished friend. She touched each of our lives with her kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will remain one of our greatest treasures.
With love and gratitude, from the Dominican School for Deaf Children family.
