Cracking start to the season for Team Bishops. Some of the highlights were the 1st XI Team executing their game plan and earning a 3-2 victory. The u16A team showed grit and discipline to grind out a well deserved 2-1 win. All teams can be proud of the effort they put in and the manner in which they represented Bishops, on and off the field.

Simply Blue is 21!
Simply Blue, the Bishops Acapella group, is 21 this year. In recognition of this milestone and to pay tribute to its retiring founder, Marion Gardner, a reunion concert is being held at the Baxter Concert Hall on Saturday 20 August. Our sincere thanks to Sygnia, who have come on board as the sponsor for the event. All current and past members of Simply Blue are being invited to join the celebration, and participate in a group song or more. Four Bishops boys represented Bishops and SA at the Online World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Championships this weekend.
Erik Todd came third in the Persuasive Speaking category and placed 21st overall in the competition.
Nimba Mahlati was awarded the ESL prize for the competition as a whole. He also competed in the Interpretative Reading finals (placed in the top 20 for this category).
Ben Anderson competed in the Debating Finals (top 16 for this category). He placed 29th overall.
Michael Beaumont competed in the finals for the Persuasive Speaking category (top 20 for this category).
Well done to our boys for fabulous results!

The History Department's Grade 11 boys spent a few hours learning about the holocaust which occured during World War Two. They also toured the exhibition at the Holocaust and Genocide Centre this week, which was hugely informative for the boys.
Our 1st XV ended their St Stithian’s Rugby Festival on a high note, beating a strong Parktown Boys team 26-10!
Parktown Boys were very physical and committed, and they had good set-pieces ... Well done to the boys from Bishops for overcoming a wet pitch and difficult conditions.

Our rugby boys are travelling to Gqeberha to play in the Grey High Rugby Festival this weekend. We wish all our teams a great tournament!
1st XV to play St Andrew’s College at 14:10 Thursday and then Hoërskool Outeniqua Saturday at 14:10.
All three junior teams play St Andrew’s then Selborne from East London.

The u14A Hockey Boys participated in the Independent Schools Hockey Festival at Michael House this past weekend. After a set of excellent performances were announced as one of the Teams of the festival with these excellent results:

Zuhayr Mohamood ended 3rd in the Karate National Championship representing the Western Cape, which was held in Durban. He was selected to represent SA in the National Karate Team. Congratulations, Zuhayr.

A group of Bishops boys and staff left this weekend to climb to base camp at Everest. An update on the trip so far…. In Namche Bazar having a hot chocolate and apple strudel. A dream come true for these gentlemen for sure!
Well done to Joseph Oelz in Grade 10, who was awarded his SA colours for go-karting at the end of last year, but due to the Covid restrictions, he and his team mates were unfortunately not able to compete in the go-karting World Champs in Bahrain.
At the recent Western Province award ceremony, Joseph received the Victor Ludorum for best overall driver of the year, the trophy for winning the WP championship as well as being awarded his senior provincial colours.
The Bishops 1st XI Hockey squad pre-season training camp was hosted by the Dicey family in Ceres this weekend. Boys were put through their paces by coaches and OD Mustapha Cassiem, culminating in a win against Charlie Hofmeyr High School. Looking forward to a great season and a fun series of Friday night lights!
