πββοΈ Why Does My Child Suddenly "Forget" How to Swim on Holiday? π€
Have you ever taken your child on holiday, only to find that the confident swimmer from lessons suddenly doesn't want to swim, won't let go of you or seems to have forgotten skills they could do perfectly the week before?
π‘ Don't worry β this is completely normal!
πββοΈ Children often become comfortable and confident in the environment where they learn. When they move to a different pool, the water may feel colder, deeper, bigger, noisier or simply unfamiliar. This can make them feel unsure and cause them to temporarily regress.πββοΈ
It doesn't mean they've lost their skills. In fact, they usually still can swim, they just need time to build confidence in the new environment.
π¬ Here are a few ways to help:
βοΈ Give them time to adjust to the new pool.
βοΈ Avoid pressuring them to perform.
βοΈ Join them in the water and make it fun.
βοΈ Celebrate small victories.
βοΈ Be patient and encouraging.
Most swimmers quickly regain their confidence once they feel safe and comfortable again. Remember, confidence and skill don't always develop at the same pace!
π A little patience goes a long way, and before you know it, they will be back to showing off their swimming skills.

πSwimming is a skill that develops over time through regular practice. π
Even short, consistent lessons help swimmers build confidence in the water, improve strength and coordination, and develop the muscle memory needed to master new skills. π¬
Every time a swimmer gets into the pool, they reinforce what they've learned and take another step forward in their swimming journey. Missing long periods between lessons can slow progress, while regular attendance helps keep skills fresh and encourages steady improvement.
π Remember: Small, consistent steps lead to big progress in the pool!

π Why Submergence Matters π
One of the biggest milestones in baby swimming lessons is learning to become comfortable going underwater. While this can feel a little nerve-wracking for parents and guardians, it is often much scarier for the adult than it is for the baby! π
Babies are introduced to submergence gradually and through consistent practice, they learn important water skills that help build confidence and familiarity with being in the water.
β¨ Benefits of submergence include:
π Building water confidence from an early age
π Developing breath control and water awareness
π Encouraging independence and trust in the aquatic environment
π Creating a strong foundation for future swimming skills
It's completely normal for parents to feel anxious before their little one goes underwater for the first time. πΆ However, babies often take their cues from the adults around them. When parents stay calm, positive and confident, children are much more likely to enjoy the experience and feel secure.
Remember, every child progresses at their own pace. Our coaches work closely with families to ensure submergence is introduced in a gentle, positive and age-appropriate way. π
The smiles that appear after a successful submergence often remind us that the anticipation was much bigger than the moment itself! π

πEyes Down, Body Straight! πββοΈ
Did you know that where you look can have a big impact on your swimming?π
Looking too far forward causes your head to lift, which can make your hips and legs sink. This creates more drag in the water and makes swimming harder than it needs to be!
β
Keep your eyes looking down towards the bottom of the pool
β
Keep your head in a neutral position
β
Allow your body to stay long, straight and balanced in the water
A small adjustment can make a big difference to your swimming efficiency and confidence! ππ

β¨ Did you know? β¨
πββοΈ Olympic swimmers can lose up to 10 litres of sweat during races and training sessions, even while surrounded by water? π¦
π Because sweating isnβt as noticeable in the pool, itβs important for swimmers to stay well hydrated before, during and after swimming π₯€
