SIGNIFICANCE OF FASTING...

Both the Old Testament and New Testament teaches us about the importance of fasting, in pleasing God- through many examples of people in the Bible who fasted, to experience God’s supernatural revelation, and wisdom through this practice. I found over 40 verses alluding to fasting and its importance.

For the sake of brevity, I am only going to quote one verse.
“They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the LORD and for the nation of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword” 2 Samuel 1:12.

God’s Last and Final Testament, the Glorious Quran, supports the Bible in its prescription of, inter-alia, fasting.

Surah 4:163 confirms "Verily We revealed to you as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him, and We (also) revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isack and Jacob and the Tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron, and Solomon, and We gave David the Psalms."

Today, 25 April 2020 is the beginning of the Muslim’s holy month of Ramadaan.

Allah states in Surah 2:183 “O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (pious or God-conscious)”.

In this verse Allah The Almighty uses the term “SAUM” which loosely translated from Arabic to English means to FAST. But, “saum” is not just starving oneself from food and water, like the medical fast one undergoes before an operation. It is much deeper. It encompasses an increase in other aspects of one’s holistic life as a Muslim- praying, fasting, social relations with others, taking care of the poor and indigent, respecting life, including animal and plant etc.

It also means a sacrifice in restraining ones carnal desires, forbidding conjugal rights which are normally permissible between a married couple, and voluntary prayers and recital of all 114 chapters (which spans over a 23 years period of revelation) of the entire Quran, is recited within one month to its completion.

So, when one controls ones focus on doing good and forbidding wrong, it is when one’s spiritual consciousness starts kicking in, and expands. This connection is beyond superficial and it is by far stronger than a 5G network capable of roasting the most beautiful human body to ashes!

Let us all- Jew, Christian, Hindu, Tamil and all other brethren in humanity, join us Muslims in this auspicious month, to glorify God Alone, begging Him to expiate us from our wrongs and to rid the entire world of this Covid-19 virus.

After all, if we are not comrades in faith, we remain brothers and sisters in humanity.

I wish all 1,7 billion Muslims world-wide a Ramadan Kareem May all your good deeds pay huge dividends for you and your love ones.

Hmmmmmm.....and then comes the feast that brings out the beast again.......
