FAIRMONT GOES GREEN
Fairmont High School is pleased to announce that our Solar PV system has been installed and was switched on in December 2021. It is a 95 kW peak green energy system, comprising 290 solar panels and two inverters that is able to provide about 50% of Fairmont’s electricity usage over a typical year.
This system will save the school some R 275 000 per year and therefore pays for itself after only 4 years, even though the panels are estimated to have a lifespan of some 30 years.
The system has an online monitoring dashboard and is fitted with a special meter that feeds excess power back into the grid, which the City of Cape Town refunds the school for.
