He is a founder member of the legendary South African Hip Hop Group, Black Noise (www.blacknoise.co.za). He is best known for his developmental work and community outreach projects like the Heal the Hood Project who won the best Hip Hop Organization in 2010 (www.healthehood.org.za ) and hosting events like African Hip Hop Indaba, Battle of the Year, Shut Up Just Dance, African Battle Cry, Cape Flats Uprising, Surf Day, Up The Rock, Black Noise Anniversary and Freestyle Session. Emile was part of 1997 SA Breakdance team to win 3rd in the World Champs. Emile is now mostly known for being the judge on eTVs dance show “Step Up or Step Out”, but he has helped to raise money for and sent 204 young people to travel to international events globally. He has recorded and released 12 albums with Black Noise, 9 solo Emile YX? Albums, 1 Afrikaaps soundtrack, featured on 9 compilation albums, 7 Heal the Hood compilation albums and helped 6 local artists release their solo albums. He helped with writing and performing in 6 plays, including award winning play, Afrikaaps. The others were Ons Bou, Mixing It Up, Stompie, Break & Die Riel van Hip Hop. Emile started South Africa’s first Hip Hop magazine “Da Juice” and wrote 4 books, “What is Hip Hop?”, “My Hip Hop is African & Proud”, “Conscious Rhymes For Unconscious Times” & is currently completing “Making a Black Noise”. He also helped graffiti artists Falko and Mak1 to release their own magazines and assists Heal The Hood Project to release an annual compilation of Rhymes, Articles, Poetry, Short Stories and Sketches called R.A.P.S.S., of which there are 3 volumes. He was also invited to speak about Hip Hop’s influence on his life at Universities like Harvard, Stanford, Trinity, Swedish Universities, U.C.T & U.W.C. Recently he implemented his knowledge into Heal The Hood Practical School called Mixed Mense, where he took youth through a 5 year practical performance and life experience course. Emile also recently received an Honorary Award and won the King of Western Cape Award from South African Hip Hop Awards and Lifetime Achievement Award from Iconic Urban Dance Awards. He has just been selected as the Face of Mosh*to Music Conference, where he was honored with an award for his Contribution to Hip Hop Music & Culture in South Africa. He also just hosted the 1st Cape Flats Film Festival, Positive Poster Day, So-called Coloured / Mixed Heritage Appreciation Group, Cape Flats Photo Competition and 9 True-braries in 9 provinces in South Africa. Emile has toured & performed in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, England, Italy, USA, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and India.
