The Eoan Group School of Performing Arts and Academic Centre wish to inform and congratulate students at Rhodes

Competition.

The following students have successfully reached the next round of the Teen Idol 2023;

 Busisiwe Kubheka (15), Grade 9 – Group 3

The following performances will be at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone,
 Group 1: Monday, 28th August 2023 @ 7pm
 Group 2: Tuesday, 29th August 2023 @ 7pm
 Group 3: Wednesday, 30th August 2023 @ 7pm

We, humbly request your support in this competition by spreading the word and being in attendance at the theatre to witness the beautiful performances. Your support and your vote will be appreciated by the contestants and their families.

Muharram celebrations at Rhodes High School With Mrs Abrahams (head of the MSA) and Sheik Damons.

Imaan Alcock was invited to a international under 16 to 23 year BT football Agency trail for Spain 2024 on the 16th July 2023.

On the day there were about 30 girl's also present for the trails. Imaan was the youngest player on the squad.

We are very proud to announce that she has been selected to form part of the team that will play in a league in Spain in 2024. Keep up the good work Imaan!

Laeeqah Majiet is a wing that plays for SA tag rugby in the mixed team. She started playing tag rugby last year September where she played for my brothers team when they were playing in a league for fun by ETA college. She fell in love with the game. She was asked to go for SA tag team Rugby trails. And got selected to represent SA against Great Britain. She scored 3 tries in the game.

We are very proud of you Laeeqah! Keep up the good work!

A very big congratulations to Miss du Plessis and the after school drama club with their outstanding performances and results of the Virtual Eisteddfod competition.

The drama club has acquired 3 gold 🥇 awards and 1 silver 🥈 in the competition.

Well done on your hard work and effort you have put in to your performances. 🎭

Rhodes High School celebrated the Matric Ball this past weekend.

It was a special evening where every learner in attendance looked absolutely stunning.

A big thank you to Mr Twala and Mrs King who gave their time and made the effort to make this a memorable occasion for the grade 12s.

SUPERSPORT RUGBY DAY - 27 MAY 2023
PLANNING FOR THE DAY:

Date of Event: 27 May 2023

Time: 8h00 – 15h00
Eight teams will be present with management on the day, and we are potentially looking at 300 people attending the event.
Supersport Schools will be present with the aim of televising the event.
They will also ensure that the medics and Referees will be present, but please also bring your own first aid kits.

Matches will commence as follows:

9h00 - Match 1
10h00 - Match 2
11h00 - Match 3
12h00 - Match 4

Toilets: Boys toilets in our senior quad and rooms 12, 13, 21 and 22 is available to be used by the visiting teams as change rooms.
The school will also hire +/- 6 toilets for the spectators.
Parking: Under cover parking will be available at Growthpoint Riverpark, across from the field from 7h30 onwards. Parking signs and staff will be present to direct cars to the parking facility. No parking will be allowed on school grounds. Cars will have to pay R10,00 on the day, but spectators enters free of charge. Spectators will be allowed to enter at the school’s main gate or from the Growthpoint parking facilty.
Refreshments: Various food trucks as well as a school tuckshop will be available on the day selling from cooldrinks, water, burgers, waffels, hotdogs, mocktails, coffee etc.

We are extremely excited that Rhodes High School will be hosting the Under 15 Super Sport Ruck and Jol matches for Quarter 2, on Saturday the 27 th of May; from 8h00 – 16h00.

There will be 8 teams in total competing, including one from Rhodes High, and we are potentially looking at 500 - 1000 people attending the event, including the respective management teams.

Super Sport Schools will be present on the day and
the matches will be televised live. Western Province Rugby will ensure that the Medics and Referees are present.

In addition, other sports codes will also take part (organised by our sports department); and we are organising food trucks to turn the day into a festive and successful fundraising event. The school tuck shop will also operate on the day, providing softdrinks, water, chips and sweets. We are allowed a maximum of 10 foodtrucks, so if you have a foodtruck business, please be sure to book your spot -
the contact person for this is Mrs Bailey - Finance department, or Mr Noble - Rugby coordinator. There will be secure parking available to parents and spectators of all participating schools, on the day.

We are therefore requesting parents to come forward with any support in the form of sponsorship and other assistance they can offer. For instance, although we have a qualified coaching team, we are still in need of coaching support, to really be able to
showcase the talent that our learners can display. We commit to acknowledge and promote any support or assistance that we receive. Another example of a desperate need is a set of rugby jerseys, white shorts, rugby socks and rugby boots for our Under 15’s team. Cost estimate are as follows:
Rugby jerseys - R10 000.00, White shorts - R1 650.00, Rugby socks - R1 100.00
Rugby boots - R R6 600.00
If you are in a position to assist with new or old equipment, it’ll be highly appreciated. Please contact Mr Noble (rugby coordinator) or Mr Jansen (sports coordinator) in this regard.

Congratulations to our Grade 12 student Amaza Mbakaza for graduating in the junior City Council. As you worked toward this victory, you behaved with such humility, grace and kindness to others. Keep on being a source of inspiration and motivation to our students.

Amaza Mbakaza hails from the township of Khayelitsha in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Currently in Grade 12 at Rhodes High School in Mowbray, Amaza was born and raised in Cape Town.

His passion for leadership was first ignited when he was elected to serve on the Representative Council of Learners in 2020. This experience fueled his desire to make a positive impact in his community through advocacy and service. Amaza's commitment to leadership and community engagement exemplity his drive to create a better future for himself and those around him.

Rhodes High School Athletics Team that competed in the Table Bay Zonal Championships at the Greenpoint stadium. We are super proud of our Athletes. !

Mr Noble and Mrs King invited Old Rhodes Scholar, Dr Randall Ortel, to address the Gr 10s during assembly this week. He had a fruitful interview with the school Journalist Luniko Jaxa afterwards.

We have had a successful first couple of weeks with the new grade 8s.

Last week Thursday we had the most fun at Kirstenbosch where the Gr 8s and their class teachers enjoyed playing games and hiking through the beautiful gardens.

The Gr 8s have also worked very hard and produced a successful concert followed by Rhodes High's very first blazer ceremony. Welcoming the new learners and their parents into the Rhodes family.

We are excited for what is to come in the next 4 years. Keep on the spirit of perseverance grade 8s.

FEEL GOOD | The drive to succeed: Cape Town man drove taxis to fulfil his dream of becoming a doctor | News24 A doctor who lives in the gang-ridden community of Manenberg, Cape Town, drove a 'pimped out' minibus taxi over weekends to fund part of his medical studies. Dr Randall Ortel now uses social media to educate people about health-related issues.
