The only thing you can count on is change.

I started Metapsych Education, Training & Life Coaching with a work peer and friend in 2012, when my eldest daughter was in Grade 4, and I thought my background in education and psychology could aid us and others navigate those first cycle tests and exams with less stress and more ease.

What became known as the schools division grew to work across all the school grades, offering school group workshops as well as tertiary skills sessions.

I then launched the Academic Coaching workshops and the Tutor division aimed at further developing Metapsych’s learners’ classroom skills, and moved my Life and Corporate Coaching out under Shannon Schutte Life Coaching.

When the pandemic forced us to reinvent ourselves Metapsych moved into the online space and thrived!

The global pandemic coincided with my relocation from Johannesburg to Cape Town which brought with it the challenge of moving an established word-of-mouth business in the midst of a lockdown. It’s now five years later and I have a much better understanding of the school culture, and the academic needs of my new community whilst continuing to work with my Johannesburg clients online.

With that my attention has shifted and so in 2026 I welcome new changes.

Metapsych and Shannon Schutte Life Coaching will once again merge but this time into a smaller more focused consultancy - The Skills Practice offering online and in-person targeted programmes, training and workshops aimed at Personal and Academic Development.

I hope you will support my new endeavour by following The Skills Practice as I Introduce it into its new working, and social media spaces.

Worth remembering

As the celebration of our top achievers over the last two days slowly fades let’s always remember that we are not to be measured only by the numbers As we gathered in our final exams

Congratulations to all those who did not get eleven distinctions. To those who barely passed because the journey hasn't been an easy one.

To those who spent nights studying with only a few candles because they still do not have access to electricity.

To those who had desperately wanted to study but did not always have the time because they had to look after younger siblings.

To those who missed school and fell behind on homework because they could not afford the "luxury" of sanitary pads.

To those who woke up long before everyone else to catch taxis or had to walk great distances to get to school and back.

And to those who sat in exam venues trying desperately to remember the answers while hunger and discomfort tried to distract them from accomplishing their goals.

Eleven distinctions? Absolutely amazing.

But sometimes barely passing is a far greater accomplishment.

The matric class of 2024 achieved a record-breaking 87.3% pass rate, an improvement from 82.9% in 2023, marking the highest matric pass rate in South African history.
