Blessed Christmas to the Excelsior Family- Learners, Parents, Ex- learners, Colleagues, Ex- colleagues and their families.
May your day be filled with the Peace of the Christ child and blessings in abundance. π
On Thursday, 15 December 2022 we said a fond goodbye to our beloved Mrs Cornelia Willoughby.
Mrs Willoughby has taught at Excelsior for MANY years. She has taught Afrikaans Huistaal and History from grades 8 to 12.
Mrs Willoughby, known for her sparkling personality and positive spirit, has been a strong influence in the lives of many learners and ex-learners. She has played a pivotal role in the lives of all learners who have passed through her hands. Her nurturing style has made every learner feel valued, as if he or she is her favourite learner. The sparkle in her eyes when she recounted a positive experience in glowing terms about an incident in class, or a learner's interesting response, is one of her endearing qualities. Her passion for the holistic education of learners, has always been at the core of her teaching style. She would insist that learners understand values such as politeness and courtesy.
It is through the collective efforts of the Afrikaans subject team, that Excelsior has sustained 100% pass rate in both Afrikaans Huistaal as well as Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal.
Mrs Willoughby's tenure at Excelsior has spanned more than three decades. During this time, she has witnessed the intervention of security police during the apartheid era, then followed the inception of the first democratic government and the impact it had on education in South Africa. The implementation of various education systems and the changes that it brought in the schools, were embraced and 'patiently endured' by educators and learners. It was always Mrs Willoughby who would point out the positive aspects when others were struggling to adjust.
We will always value her immense contribution to the school community of Excelsior.
We wish her well on her life's journey. May retirement bring many joyful moments, great productivity and healthy years!
Excelsior salutes you, Mrs Willoughby
