It's such an honour to be doing what we do❤️
Truth be told, our clients, whether kiddies or adults are constantly on our minds, in our thoughts and prayers. So much of our time is dedicated to our clients outside of their therapy sessions, but for pay-offs like these - we wouldn't have it any other way!
Now to get back to the magic... 🤓
This poem goes out to all the amazing speech and language therapists who help children, like me, on a daily basis find their voice. If you didn’t do the amazing, selfless job you do then I, for one, wouldn’t have the voice I have today. Thank you.

Earlier intervention is always better.
I know a lot of parents take comfort in these odds- 70-80% of late talkers catch up to their peers by the time they start school. That sounds great- and don’t get me wrong, it IS amazing! But- look at the age- 30 months, that’s 2.5 years. The 70-80% of kids that catch up are rapidly gaining words after that initial late start to talking- which is one thing to keep an eye on as kids get older. But even with that, they have been found to have lasting weaknesses in language skills. So even if you are taking comfort in those numbers, seek help. Get some assessment and speech therapy if it’s at all possible. Be proactive. Early intervention is the BEST thing you can do to help your child have the most positive outcome!

Besides teaching kids about responsibility, cause and effect, social interaction, negotiation and independence; chores provide multiple language learning opportunities for kids 👌
Yes! Chores are life skills! Not only that; they are opportunities for motor planning, executive functioning, heavy work...and so much more!

Gesture, gesture, gesture... Really go for it!
Why I tell parents to point at things to help late talkers to speak
Most kids gesture before they talk. For example, they: point at things they want parents to look at; shake their heads to say “no”; and tilt their hands to their mouth to tell us they …

A “million word gap” for children who aren’t read to at home
Young children whose parents read them five books a day enter kindergarten having heard about 1.4 million more words than kids who were never read to, a new study found. This “million word gap” could be one key in explaining differences in vocabulary and reading development, said Jessica Logan, ...
