🔹 🔹TAFELBERG SCHOOL FAQS 🔹 🔹
We had a productive meeting with Minister Jaco Londt on Friday, to obtain a more in-depth discussion around their current proposal for the Tafelberg School site. Please make sure you have read the full media release before jumping at the misinformation on Social Media. A couple of key points in answer to some of the questions I have had or seen:
âť“ What will happen to the Heritage Buildings and Trees? These are heritage and will remain as per the division of the property above. The Province has also spent a lot of money rehabilitating the roof and other maintenance to preserve and keep the buildings.
❓ Mixed Use Development – means residential, commercial and retail use which is the most common development these days where there is business zoning.
❓ Affordable Housing – Returning Affordable housing to the site is being considered as part of the proposal – ”This includes the investigation into the viability of affordable housing on a portion of this erf previously used for accommodation purposes, which had its own title but was later consolidated into one erf.”
❓ What will the Mixed Use portion look like or specifically contain – it’s too early to say yet as the process is just starting.
❓ What will the heritage part of the building be used for – “Social Development plans to use this opportunity to broaden our social services footprint, particularly to address the shortage of residential services in the province for persons with disabilities, and older persons”
❓Last year we were asked to register to be part of a public participation? Yes I raised this with the Minister, and that it was frustrating that this process had started and nothing happened. This is outside of his directorate but took note of the frustrations.
We are planning to meet with the Provincial Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure to continue the discussion about this project.

The court case to appeal the ruling in the Province’s favour is being heard at the Constitutional Court tomorrow.
