“To live is to choose
But to choose well, you must know
Who you are and what you stand for
Where you want to go and why you want to get there.”

Okay - so I KNOW its the middle of January already, but I guess a New Years greeting is better late than never, right. This is written by C Hoppe (interesting!!!) and I liked the thought - not so much as a resolution, but more as a way of being.
"I hope that my achievements in life shall be these - that I
will have fought for what was right and fair,
that I will have risked for that which mattered,
and that I will have given help to those who were in need,
that I will have left the earth a better place for what I've done
and who I've been."
Have a rich, fulfilling and wonderful 2015!!

This piece was written by Brian Hope on his social media page and, with his kind permission, I wanted to include it here as I thought it valuable in that it reminds us to live without judgement or assumptions - to embrace diversity.
"I had a surreal experience this evening [5 August] after travelling from ATM to ATM to try to find one that worked with my 'broken' bank card. My final stop was the FNB next to 7/11 in Muizenberg. I tried to put the card in whilst two homeless men looked on, one in his 60's and the other 70's, old mattress on the ground and rags for blankets over them. The one piped up and said, "Nooit Bru, that thing is stukkend." I looked at them and said, "Ah flip man, this is the last one I'm trying." At this point I had given up on the search and sat down next to these dudes. The younger of the duo and I then started chatting about how much he loves reading Frederick Forsyth novels, what his aspirations in life used to be and how tough it was in winter on the streets. One thing that he brought up during the convo is that he was happy that someone actually took the time to sit down and chat to him and not treat him like a worthless piece of garbage like he is usually treated. I'm not saying that I have never written off a homeless person when I'm in a rush, or even when I'm feeling impatient. It's just a nice reminder that we are all the same people here on earth, some born with better opportunities than others, some have lost their families and friends, some have had their minds altered by drugs and some are destitute without jobs. Nothing gives us the right to look down on people."
Nice, ne?

Cape Town in winter is either grey, wet and damply cold or clear, blue and crisp cold but either way distinctly cold! Meeting with a friend for coffee is always one of life’s sweeter pleasures but winter enhances these tête-à-tête conversations as the rich smells of coffee and pastries mingle with the smoky warmth of cheerful wood fires. The comfort of the flames mirror the warmth and connection I experience on a weekly basis meeting with my friend Christina Tranter Hope, an accredited Time To Think practitioner, https://www.facebook.com/ChristinaHopeCoaching?fref=nf . Under her gentle gaze I am guided through a Thinking Partnership session where I am given the gift of a silent, empathetic and nourishing listening space in which I can explore my current thinking, in depth and with no concern that I may be judged or rated. With her deep understanding of the model and her interest and commitment to me I settle back and think, deeply and widely, question and clear the assumptions that have blocked me from being the best me my heart burns for, and come to an incisive question that guides my hours and days ahead, a clear flame lighting the way ahead. I appreciate Christina for her offering of herself and deeply treasure the weekly thinking environment she so skilfully creates for our meetings. May you all be so blessed with a special space to think and celebrate the fiery crackles of your original thought.

Yesterday I had morning coffee with my friend Sihle Tshabalala, National Coordinator and Facilitator for 'Brother's for All'. Rather than embarking on a lengthy description about 'Brothers for All', may I point you at their website - www.brothersforall.org - it is most worth it.
Sihle is a man of indefatigable energy, dedicated and committed to making a difference and a champion of change. I always come away from time with him with a feeling of wellbeing and wonder at the quality he models to create this sense of comfort and ease.
And this leads me to muse over wellbeing. Is wellbeing simply being able to tick away at the boxes of influencing factors like - a sense of purpose, or realistic and achievable goals, a healthy self-esteem. Or is there something more, something deeper? "Betterhealth" says that wellbeing is linked to how we feel about ourself and our life. That it is a combination of the influencing factors of a person's physical, mental, emotional and social health. [www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au]
This being so, it occurs to me that wellbeing must then begin with intention - what is my intention for my self and my life, what am I creating? And up comes the word 'self-respect' and, by extention, the associated individual personal values that ignite self-respect - things like integrity, compassion, understanding ............
Ah yes, I can see how those qualities would affect 'a happy intimate relationship with a partner', 'the enjoyment of a network of close friends', 'a fulfilling career', or 'one's spiritual beliefs'. It does feel good!!
Now, I should like to know what you think.......................................
It feels well.
