Why do we love dance? To dance is to live. At Wilvan we believe that dance is a valuable art form and means of expression. Dance can play an important role in developing children’s motor skills and coordination and is highly beneficial

Khadija Heeger’s poem ‘Displaced’ was a fitting tribute to the journey of Wilvan during apartheid era when the late Dr Veronica Williams was displaced as a young girl for her race… they were dark times in out history, commemorated.

Life and times of iconic dance teacher Veronica Williams celebrated She is one of only four who will receive doctoral degrees at the ceremony held at the Sarah Baartman Hall on the upper campus.

Dear Michael, Jay, and Brent. Your loss is our loss too! Veronica's departure leaves us bereft of a true daughter of the soil, a committed servant whom God had endowed with a brilliant mind, great intellectual capacity and phenomenal gifts of dance, not only in South Africa but in the whole dance movement at large. We have indeed lost a valuable member. She will be remembered for her dedication to the struggle for liberation and justice in our beautiful land. Dance was her first love and she captivated the audiences with her presence on stage. She danced throughout her life and her gracefulness, beauty and strength were always present on stage and off. She could teach as she could dance with fire. All of us her students were inspired by her determination, skills and zest for life. Now she has crossed the River Jordan and entered the New Jerusalem where there is no more death nor dying nor pain. She is dancing with the angels. Behold God makes all things new. Revelations 21vs 4.

It is with deep sorrow that we lay our dear Veronica Williams, founder of Wilvan School Of Dance, to rest. A woman of substance, of fortitude and determination. She was a true flamenca, heart and soul. Besides producing some of the best dancers South Africa has seen, Veronica taught high standards, morals, political correctness and life ethics…
The great Manolo Marin visited her home some years back, ”my people” he said “this is where flamenco lives”.
Veronica, you live on in the lives of all the many people you have touched! You have made our lives so much richer!

In November 2020 I received* an *Award* from *Dame Marina Keet de Grut,* Honorary President of the Spanish Dance Society, in recognition of the work we have done over the years. - see attachment.
I am immensely appreciative of the unfailing support I have received from my immediate family, my colleagues, Elaine and Shirley, the teachers, Naiemah, Carlyn and Cheryl, The Board, the parents, the backstage support staff and the many friends of *Wilvan* who valued what the school stood for.
Most importantly, I wish to thank our incredibly talented performers who have done Wilvan proud over the past *forty-five years* .
