We are delighted to welcome Bethany MacDonald to the admin team. We recently had the opportunity to catch up with her and learn a little more about her life, interests, and how she’s settling into her new role at BISA.
Kalk Bay through your eyes?
Kalk Bay is such a special place because it offers a beautiful balance between relaxation and excitement. It’s a vibrant coastal town filled with creativity, community, and life. I still find myself amazed when I step outside and see the ocean right in front of me. There’s something incredibly peaceful and grounding about being so close to nature. I also love the many little coffee shops and cafés, which make it such a wonderful place to meet with friends and connect with people.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy volunteering at my local church, especially serving with the worship team and youth ministry. Music, art, and learning are all things I genuinely love, and I’m always excited to explore something new. I also adore animals, enjoy staying active, and love spending time outdoors. Depending on the day, you’ll either find me curled up with a good book and a cup of tea or out in nature enjoying the fresh air and scenery.
How are you finding your new role at BISA, and how do you see God using you?
I’ve really enjoyed stepping into this new role and becoming part of the BISA community. It’s been such a blessing to serve in a place that is committed to equipping people for ministry and sharing the Gospel. I see this season as one in which God is teaching me faithfulness in the small things while also growing me personally and spiritually. I hope to use both my administrative skills and my background in counselling to encourage and support others wherever I can.

"Hi! My name is Emilee Cogdill and I am a third year student at the Bible Institute of South Africa.
I was born in America but have grown up as a missionary kid in Africa as my parents have served with Wycliffe Bible Translators. I came to know Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was five years old. It was through my parents helping me understand the Bible that God opened my eyes to see my need for the Gospel. Since that day I have desired to keep growing in my understanding of God’s Word.
My two older brothers are graduates of BISA, and they encouraged me to become a student and learn how to rightly study the Bible for myself. During my three years of studying I have not only been given the tools to better interpret and apply the truths of God’s Word, but I have been equipped in the classroom to go out into my community to make these truths known to others.
I would encourage anyone desiring to learn more about God’s Word for themselves to consider becoming a student at BISA. One of my favorite courses was Women in Ministry with Ms. Lorna Bucklow. I loved learning about how God has used Christian women in the past, and I was encouraged to learn about how God continues to use Christian women in the present for His glory and the good of others.
I am graduating this year and returning to America, and I would appreciate your prayers as I pursue further studies in theology. I feel God is calling me to teach others all that I have begun to learn since studying at BISA"
Does this sound like your kind of college?
