WILD UPDATE | THE WILDMAN IS GOING WILD!

After many years of working, living and playing in the Cape, it’s time for a pretty big change…

In September, the Wildman is being released back into the wild!

I’ll be relocating from the Cape to the Kruger to Canyons Biome, taking the Wildman a little closer to the wild places, wildlife and conservation work that have been such a huge part of my life.

It’s a big move, and an exciting one. A new environment, new challenges, new stories and, hopefully, plenty of opportunities to get my boots dirty and get stuck into some meaningful conservation work.

But don’t worry — **the Wildman isn’t disappearing!**

This page will remain active and will continue to be a place for all things wild. I’ll still be sharing wildlife information, interesting animal facts, rescue experiences, human-wildlife conflict, educational content and, of course, the occasional Wildman opinion.

What will change is that you’ll hopefully get to come along for the ride as I explore a new part of South Africa and get closer to the wildlife and conservation challenges on the ground.

After nearly 30 years working with animals, this next chapter feels like a return to where the Wildman belongs.

**The Cape chapter is closing.**
**The Kruger chapter is about to begin.**

And trust me…

**Things are about to get WILD.

If you’ve been following the Wildman journey for a while, thank you. Your support has meant more than you probably realise.

**Stay wild. The best is yet to come.**

Winter didn’t just arrive… it moved in overnight. And we’re not the only ones looking for a warm place to bunker down.

Snakes and lizards are now on the hunt for cosy hideouts—think compost heaps, wood piles, garden sheds, garages, and storerooms. Basically… all the places you’re about to stick your hands without looking.

Before you lift, shift, or tidy—pause and check. A few seconds of awareness can save you (and them) from a very unwanted surprise.

And if you do find a scaled stowaway, don’t panic and don’t play hero—give us a call and we’ll handle it safely.

Not all rescues are big, bold or newsworthy. With that being said to the animal involved every rescue is a matter of life and death. Recently while walking on the beach I encountered this Rhino beetle on his back in the surf line. He was wet and cold, unable to right himself. I picked him up and walked him to some plants at the end of the beach. A small act for me but a very big act for the beetle.

WildMan is regularly called out for suspected injured wild animals. Sometimes it’s a full rescue, other times it’s an on-site assessment to make sure they’re safe.

Many of these call outs happen after hours, and each one comes with real costs — fuel, specialized equipment, and hours of time from our dedicated team.

You can help.
If you’d like to sponsor a rescue and be part of saving a life, you can:

Each call out means the world to the animal involved. Your support keeps us on the road and ready to respond when wildlife needs us most.

Thank you for standing with us for our wild ones.
