The 1956 Women’s March was a call to action to women about coming together to support women regardless of whether or not they faced the same challenges. The march was about standing up for oneself and for each other. About solidarity and being there for one another. In the spirit of hope, justice and solidarity that characterised the 1956 march, let us draw together as a community of all genders and remember what these women knew: when we stand together, when we are less alone in our struggles, we are more likely to overcome them.

Shana Basson, Head of Chapel, reminded us of this call to action in our Women’s Day Chapel service. The rousing response from her peers confirmed that Shana’s call to each student to turn to their neighbour to affirm them, and to take their rightful place and overcome the struggles that accompany these steps, remains as relevant as the call 66 years ago. Let’s rise together.

The Land of Fire and Ice 🔥❄️

HS geographers and teachers ventured exactly halfway across the world to experience the unspoiled landscapes of Iceland and they weren’t disappointed.

They immersed themselves in all the beauty that the terrain had to offer, exploring black sand beaches, volcanic ash-covered glaciers, and Icelandic waterfalls.

Huge thanks to our generous hosts, teachers and families who made this trip possible.

Rugby dominated Nuha Levy’s ( Grade 8 ) school holidays. She was selected for the DHL Western Province Rugby Girls’ U16 team and competed in the SARU National Girls’ Week in Welkom for Rugby 15s. Western Province won the U16 division 🏆 with Nuha scoring her first provincial try against the Blue Bulls. This is the first time a St Cyprian’s student was selected for Rugby 15s and for this annual national tournament run by the South African Rugby Union.

Nuha attended the National Touch Rugby camp last weekend as part of the Girls’ U18 squad for the Federation of International Touch Youth World Cup to be held in 2023. World Cup selections are just around the corner!

We’ll need to design an SCS rugby jersey soon…

Africa by Coco Stevens

June 16th 1976 witnessed the bravery of protesters, mostly high school students, who collectively acted against oppression. Today, school students continue to reflect on the power that young people have to contribute to freedom and change circumstances in their community, country, and the world. Eleven year-old Coco is one such young person. Through the power of poetry she expresses her voice.

Environmental issues affect everyone and are issues that we keep top of mind, every day. From school waste audits, strategizing next steps to opening and maintaining our own plot at the Oranjezicht City Farm, we’re choosing to be involved.

Something exciting is launching soon! Girls in blue are going green, for the love of our planet 💚💙💚💙
