🪐Discover the Wonders of Space! Meet former NASA Astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger at the DSK.💫
The Space Tour 2026 is landing at the DSK once again on Thursday, 23 July 2026 at 18:00. Get ready for a unique opportunity to meet a real-life astronaut face-to-face.

Dorothy Marie "Dottie" Metcalf-Lindenburger, a veteran NASA astronaut and former science teacher, flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery on the historic STS-131 mission to the International Space Station in 2010. During the mission, she served as Mission Specialist 2, robotic arm operator, and the intra-vehicular coordinator supporting complex spacewalk operations. She was also part of a historic milestone in human spaceflight when four women were simultaneously in space for the first time in history.

Before becoming an astronaut, Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger taught Earth Science and Astronomy at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington. She also coached Science Olympiad and cross-country athletics, inspiring the next generation of scientists and explorers.

⭐️🪐Astronomie-Wochenende in Sutherland🔭💫
Neun Oberstufenschüler*innen verbrachten gemeinsam mit Herrn Kevin Dreyer und Herrn Michael Schaaf ein faszinierendes Astronomie-Wochenende in Sutherland. Auf dem Programm standen Besuche der 1-Meter-, 1,9-Meter- und 11-Meter-Teleskope. Letzteres hat alle Teilnehmer*innen sehr beeindruckt. Zusätzlich wurden jeden Abend mit Amateurteleskopen die jahreszeitlichen Höhepunkte des Südsternhimmels bestaunt.

Ein herzliches Dankeschön an Heike und Otto Gerntholtz für ihre tolle Gastfreundschaft und die hervorragende Bewirtung, die dieses Wochenende zu einem besonderen Erlebnis gemacht haben.❣️

Letzte Woche nahm unser Schulmanagement-Team, Sabrina Gellermann und Paulette Preyser, an dem offiziellen Abschied von der Generalkonsulin der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Tanja Werheit, teil.
Wir möchten diese Gelegenheit nutzen, um uns nochmal ganz herzlich für die vertrauensvolle und wertschätzende Zusammenarbeit in den vergangenen Jahren zu bedanken. Ihr besonderes Interesse an der Deutschen Internationalen Schule Kapstadt sowie ihr stets positiver Blick auf unsere Schule und unsere Gemeinschaft haben wir sehr geschätzt.

🥇🌊Gold for Julie!🌊🥇
Last weekend, our DSK learner Julie Olivier (8a) represented South Africa at the ‘Africa Aquatics Zone 4 Open Water Championships’ in Mauritius. Competing against talented athletes from 16 African countries, Julie delivered an outstanding performance to win the gold medal in the 5-kilometre open water event in the 14–15 age group.
Congratulations, Julie, on flying the South African flag high and bringing home gold!🤩

🇩🇪Bochum-Austausch auf dem Weg nach Deutschland🇩🇪
19 DSK-Schüler*innen fliegen am Sonntag nach Deutschland, um an einem Austauschprogramm mit dem Neuen Gymnasium Bochum teilzunehmen.
Wir wünschen der Gruppe sowie unseren Lehrern Coenet Treurnicht, Wessel Sonnekus und Kyle von Schalkwyk eine erfolgreiche und unvergessliche Zeit in Deutschland. Gute Reise und viel Spaß beim Entdecken neuer Erfahrungen und Freundschaften!
