Hey there altogether!

My name is Natalie, my son and I will be in Capetown for one year from January 2021. (I will be studying at Stellenbosch University).

Lucky us, Yunissa got a place at the DSK and he will be attending class 2.

I would happily like to establish some contact with German speaking families (in advance) to make this big change for Yunissa as comfortable as possible.

Yunissa and I have been to ZA before, we also travelled Sierra Leone, and he is an open minded and fun child.

Im also thankful for any advice on places to rent in family friendly areas near the DSK.

Thanks a lot and hopefully see you soon!

Natalie and Yunissa

Prime position bargain rental | 2 Bedroom Flat in Oranjezicht:

With lockdown remaining in place we are presently still on the farm here outside of Grabouw and it seems that the infection rate in the city bowl is increasing dramatically as per today’s update from the councillor Brandon Golding.
The return to the area is extremely difficult for us based on my concern of the underlying and chronic 2 year health issues my 17 year old son has been faced with.
We are therefore renting out our light & sunny, gorgeous, large, secure and newly renovated 2 bedroom flat in The Orchids in Breda Street. It comes with stunning views of Table Mountain, Lions Head, large balcony, lounge, kitchen, bathroom, work station with HP printer/scanner uncapped wifi, washing machine / dryer combo, dishwasher, microwave, gas stove/electric oven, heaters, parquet floors and even a garage!
Rent: R 11 000 / month negotiable. Water included; Electricity excluded.

2022 DSK Culture Evening🎭
What a magical night! The Culture Evening on Friday, 19 August showcased 26 amazing performances by learners, teachers and parents of the DSK as well as visiting artists. They performed both classic and modern dances, beautiful songs and cool rap tracks. The event felt truly special - it was inspiring to see all different cultures connect as ONE and at the same time share their individuality. The spirit of UBUNTU was tangible.

A huge thank you goes to all our fabulous artists, the organising team, the teachers involved, all helping hands as well as the media team for making this magical evening possible!

We are proud to announce that last Friday both Kirsten and Rachel Fitschen took part in the 2022 Western Cape Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. We wish them both luck for the Nationals in Pretoria in October 2022.🤸‍♀️🏅

Our DSK learner Johan Brink, 5b, won 2x Gold and a Cum Laude at the Helderberg Eisteddfod for classical guitar.🎼

Visit from Partner School Factreton Primary (Kensington), Gr. 4-5 August 2022🥰🌈
On Friday 5 August, our Partner School Factreton Primary paid us a visit. At 9am, over 60 learners and 2 educators from Factreton arrived at the DSK.
The purpose of this visit was to enhance the partnership between our schools and to develop a relationship which is sustainable and beneficial to both schools.
After a warm welcome from our principal Mr Kirmse, Mr Pandit and Frau Steinmeyer, our guests were entertained with a variety of activities. They were taken on a tour of the school, visited and enjoyed reading in our library, engaged in sporting activities as well as finger-painting in the von Holten Hall. Frau Ortmann´s “Schnupperunterricht Deutsch”, in which she was assisted by many enthusiastic Gr. 5 DSK learners, it was an absolute highlight.
Linga Longa cafeteria provided a delicious lunch pack. A lot of laughter and cheerful chatter of our learners from the SRC, KIDS club and other volunteers (Gr. 9-12) resounded during the snack break in our cafeteria.
The teachers of Factreton Primary expressed their profound gratitude for this initiative and also the hope that such interactions would continue indefinitely. Our learner volunteers also expressed their appreciation again for being able to participate in such an invaluable undertaking.
We would like to extend a special word of thanks to our very enthusiastic learner volunteers, our experienced colleague Frau Ortmann, our Linga Longa staff and any members of the DSK community who have contributed to making this visit a success.
Kathrin Steinmeyer and Reedwaan Pandit (Heads of the English Stream Gr. 5-9).

His strongest race was the 200m breast in 2:20.14min, where he came 10th and swam a new Western Cape record for his age group.

On Thursday and Friday last week (28 and 29 July), the German department was finally able to welcome an external guest again after a forced break of three years. Poetry slam artist Felix Römer led a workshop for our three German grade 8 learners, which ended with an event for parents and school administration on Friday noon. Many students enjoyed a "different" German lesson and produced intense, funny, scary and touching texts over the two days. We really enjoyed Mr Römer's visit and are already planning a follow-up event.

Our learner Kerry Hemphill (4a) participated in the KSISAS 2022 National Karate Championship last weekend and won the gold medal in Kata for the 10-11 year old category, making her the national champion for this year.
Well done Kerry! We are very proud of you.

As the DSK says good bye and thank you to an engaged team of Grade 12 DSK Sanis (who are now in the process of writing their prelims and finals), it was time to vote a new team of Head Sanis for the 2022/23 First Aid season.
A huge thank you to Mia Kuepper (11b) and Inam Bohle (12a) who did an amazing job in the past year leading their team and keeping the DSK a safe place. Congratulations to Megan Walker (11d) and Nico Zumpt (10a) on being elected new Head Sanis – you have big shoes to fill but we know you will grow into your responsibilities and look after your DSK community together with your team in the year ahead.
Good luck and all the best!

MANDELA WEEK in full swing at the DSK🇿🇦

We are very excited to have kicked off our Mandela Drive on Monday this week! A big thanks to our Grade 10 "Mandela Team" who have been collecting, allocating and distributing all your generous donations eagerly. Please keep them coming over the next 2 days! This year we have partnered up with four different organizations who serve various parts of our Cape Town community.

Such a big effort would not be possible without the wonderful support of the DSK community.💗
We appreciate all of those who have already contributed to this great cause. The drive will run until the end of the week, culminating in a Sandwich Drive on Friday run by our team of Grade 10 learners in collaboration with the organisation HELPING HANDS.🥪👐

Our Story

The German International School Cape Town is a bilingual German school abroad with a proud history spanning over 135 years. We offer tuition in German from Grade 1 – 12. In Grade 5 English speaking children, with no prior knowledge of the German language, have the opportunity to join the school as we offer two streams, one for German and one for English speakers. Since 2007 we offer two different school leaving qualification streams from Grade 10. Our learners from the German stream qualify with a combination of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and German International Abitur, which entitles them to study in Germany, South Africa and in more than 100 countries worldwide. The learners of the English stream receive the NSC and the German Language Diploma II which can open doors to an international study and career.

School life is enriched by a wide range of activities and extra murals in the fields of music/culture, science and sports. But our school is not just a place for academic, sports and artistic achievements, it is also a place of mutual encounter for our learners from diverse cultural backgrounds. Presently we welcome children and families from more than 25 nations to our international school community. We value integration as an integral part of the holistic development of each of our learners. An excellent and diverse education prepares our learners for the challenges of the future and to become balanced, capable and responsible members of our global society.
