YES Nothing else matters until you have developed SKILLS.
Yesterday I was presenting my Teaching Methodology workshop and the questions that came through were so valid and in line with what we are generally told to do!
Here's some questions I got:
1. I was told the demonstrate all the time, is this OK?
2. How do I get everyone to work at the same pace in a group Reformer class?
3. I am definitely a controlling instructor, what should I do to be more autonomy-supportive?
4. I teach in a monotone, is it possible to change this?
5. Can these skills help me with mixed level classes and how?
You see, exercise creativity is not always the answer. How you deliver the class will make basic exercises seem so meaningful and relevant.
You don't have to get fancy, you just have to get focused and intentional with every cue, body language and voice!
As simple as that!

My love for testing all variables in training through the use of EMG and specific case st
Just yesterday my client told me that her PT told her to press her back down when she is exercising, to protect the back… Now to be clear… I have nothing against PT’s ok… but when the information that you give the client does not make sense then I am going to have to tell them.
Here is why it made no sense:
1. My client has a severe posterior tilt
2. She has weak back, flexible back extensors
3. She stands in the strong posterior tilt with a flexed spine constantly
Why ask her to train like that too… she needs the exact opposite.
Ok, rant over.. so, in essence, we need to train our back to get them stronger. Not stretch the backs into submission and weaken them in our training.
So here is a great exercise with spot-on cues to get your clients to work into the extensors through an almost full range.
As simple as that!
And if learning biomechanics, superb cueing and teaching skills is important to you then hit follow because I have so much to share with you!
Love love love these discs for shoulder mobility and range in rotation. And as soon as I lift my knees off of the mat, I get some super serratus anterior too.
Look, as you know, I do a lot of shoulder work. I have studied it, tested it, worked with a boat load of clients and seen incredible results.
One thing that I always notice is that shoulder range is limited, mobility is restricted and mind-body connection to the inferior angle of the scapula is non-existent.
So here is a quick video to help you get rotation in the shoulder joint.
Give it a go and if you do not have discs, use paper plates or a towel.
Oh, and as soon as you hover the knees off, you will get more Serratus… what a winner!
As simple as that!
And if learning more about biomechanics from somebody who can actually demonstrate it while educating you is important to you then hit follow because I have so much to share with you!
'Expose the Underarm' is the BEST DAMN cue to help you client find their Serratus! Do you want to know why?
Because nobody knows what activating the Serratus actually feels like, so they need a cue that will get them there over and over again.
Especially when you add load!
So, I tested mine to show you! Now if I could pull this off, what could it mean for you and your clients?
Guys, the spike is undeniable, unless ever single EMG that I have ever used is faulty!
Honestly, I don't see a lot of educators with an EMG on their own body, if at all! But I have been doing EMG assessments since 2014... therefore, I can cancel out the 'naysayer' noise😉
As simple as that!
And if learning how to achieve this is important to you then comment 'FIX' and I'll send you the info to my online shoulder course that is pre-recorded and ready for you!
In my mind, there is no battle between the Pilates & Gym because they both have so much value for everyone!
I cannot begin to tell you how incredible having mobility feels. And not to mention, how powerful it feels to train your body in the various positions, with resistance, that Pilates has to offer!
How do you know what it feels like if you never tried it? And the same goes for the gym! It's powerful!
We cannot deny the benefits of both...
What is important is that you go to excellent instructors otherwise you could be wasting your time in the gym and in the Pilates studio! This is a FACT! I can understand why people feel either of these don't work for them...they had bad experiences!
But don't feel that you need to pick one... Pick both and do your research on who to train with! You will see the reel just before this highlights 'Instructor red flags'.
As simple as that!
Now this was a great question from .gal.charley because to be honest, most people don't know when they are wasting their time!
I have identified the most important 8 RED FLAGS that you will see pop up a lot in the industry! Why these red flags?
Because honestly, its a BUZZ KILL in classes. Clients feel unseen, misunderstood and invisible! I see this in Pilates Studios and Gyms, and if these instructors don't pick up their socks quickly, they are going to lose clients faster than they can get new ones!
I hope this video will make clients stop and think, and instructors stop and assess!
To be fair, the industry just never taught instructors how to do it any other way! Which is why I am here😉
As simple as that!

And will you be happy with that?

You know clients push their belly out to do back extension. Here is a simple fix!
Now, it is important to know that even if they push their belly out, they will still get back extension, BUT you would prefer them to get a more accurate range that is based on functional range and not compensation or illusion.
Tip:
1. Get abdominal connection first
2. Then cue to maintain partial connection!
Of course you can get full extension without abdominal connection but this is specifically for an abdomen that likes to bulge on the lift...
As simple as that!

Yes, we did it on the Pilates Reformer and it was and is a KILLER!
I was asked to transfer the disc exercise to the Reformer, so here you go!
How to do it:
1. All springs off (shocker)
2. Feet up against shoulder pads
3. Deep spinal flexion
4. Elbows on the platform
5. Serratus in high gear
6. Hover knees off
7. Extend to a Front Support
8. Draw it back in and pull the bed ‘past’ the stopper
Contrary to popular belief, I think Joseph would be proud… 😄😄
