A holistic approach
Exercise is very vital for every individuals well-being. The increase in metabolism sustains a healthy heart and increases lung capacity.
Star Collegeโ€™s motto is โ€œRuh, Akil, Bedenโ€-soul, mind and body. To this end, the morning๐ŸŒ… starts with a prayer, followed by an exercise regimen to stimulate the muscles and increase oxygen levels to the body. Thereafter, learners are prepared for intellectual challenges of the day!!

Amid much joviality, learners were put through their โ€˜exerciseโ€™ paces by the coach, to the strains of calm music in the background. Educators took the opportunity to loosen taut muscles and join in the light-hearted ambiance.

That is a refreshing start to the school day!

First Day back ๐Ÿ™‚
The first day welcomed all new shiny, excited faces from Grade RR to Matric.

Anxiety soon settled in the new Grade RR, Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners as they recognised their friends, or better still, made new friends.

The children of Star College entered the gates with much enthusiasm as they reunited with their friends and teachers.
New learners were met at the entrance by staff and learners from higher grades and escorted to the quad, and parents were at peace that their children would settled in.

There was a buzz of excitement and after an assembly offered by the Deputy Principals and a welcome from the Principal Mr Osman Karaayvaz, the learners were lead to their new classes for 2023. The prefects for 2023, were introduced by Mrs Meral to the learners.

An awesome start at Star College Cape Town Primary

Enthusiastic educators arrived early on Monday morning to prepare for the arrival of learners on Wednesday. After sharing holiday anecdotes, educators got down to brass tacks, decorating classrooms in readiness for the influx of vibrant learners.

The new coach, Mr Jacobs put the educators through a simple exercise routine. This was the beginning of focus on the staffโ€™s holistic wellbeing. Educators were also treated to a sumptuous breakfast.

Parents and learners arrived on Wednesday, laden with stationery ready for the new academic year.

An open- air assembly was held, where the deputy principal, Mrs Sait addressed the learners on the basic school rules. The prefects for 2023, were also introduced to the learners.

This was a great start to the year!

In a blink of an eye, the teaching year for 2022 have concluded. As we reach the end, we have to acknowledge the great leadership of our new principal, Mr. O. Karaayvaz. On behalf of the Cape Town team, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you for your guidance.

Our educators were celebrated๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰ on the 13th with a rather unexpected but lovely treat, that included many laughs, tears๐Ÿฅน as well as amazing food๐Ÿ˜‹. Thank you to El Dente for the lunch that had been prepared.

This year has been filled with many joyful moments โ€“ international trips, sporting victories, as well as overall academic successes๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅ‰๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿฅ‡. However with the highs we need to acknowledge the lows.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป to three staff members. Ms. Mildred, Mr. Kutlug and Mrs. Costa. Their presence will be sorely missed as they have left an imprint in the heart of every learner and staff member. These are staff members that have been the back bone of Star. Star College wishes them nothing but the best with any and all future endeavors. May it be filled with happiness, peace and loveโค๏ธ.

To our staff, may your holiday be filled with peace, love and family. You have worked hard, with many late nights, early morning and busy days.

Enjoy every moment of your holiday๐ŸŒด.

It is with a bitter sweet heart that I write this today about parting from an incredible institution at the end of this year. I am proud and honoured to have worked with an incredible group of individuals and to have taught such phenomenal learners. The drive, passion and determination; underpinned by compassion and friendship, has seen my journey at Star College Cape Town a fruitful one.
The most special component of Star College Cape Town is the โ€œfamily unitโ€ that I will forever cherish. Each and every one of you have moments that I will forever keep close to my heart. I want to thank every parent, student and staff for allowing me to become a part of this incredible family over the past five years. My learners have made my journey at this school special. Each year I look back at what the girls have achieved and how far they have all come. Your growth is awe-inspiring. Stay blessed and awesome always! I am the teacher I am because of my students. I will miss you all but will never forget the impact you have had on my life. May you all be blessed beyond measure. And remember this is not a farewell but a simple โ€œSee you laterโ€. May God bless each one of you with endless success, good health and eternal happiness. But for now, โ€œAdieu, Adieu, Adieuโ€. MRS COSTA

Sparkling Stars at the Annual Matric Graduation and Valedictory Function held at Kelvin Grove Club
Matric Graduation and Valedictory 2022

The annual matric graduation and valedictory celebrations had taken placed after the National Senior Examinations at the Kelvin Grove Club on Friday 09 December. The evening was filled with nervous anticipation and surprises.

All twenty-nine beautiful young ladies, attired in the most exquisite ball gowns๐ŸŽ“ and perfect makeup, attended this incredibly special and memorable event. They were honoured by the presence of members of Horizon Trust, principals of Star College Cape Town and Star College Bridgetown, Mrs Kayya from Star College Durban, educators, parents, families, and friends.

In his heartfelt principalโ€™s address, Mr Karaayvaz acknowledged and applauded the class of 2022 as an incredible group who persevered and made it through two exceedingly difficult years of the COVID pandemic.

On behalf of parents and families Dr Stoltenkamp and Mr Hamied expressed appreciation to educators and support staff and shared some wisdom with the graduates for the unknown new season.

Although the senior high school years were particularly challenging, one of the highlights of the evening was the celebration of benevolence, friendship, and academic excellence. Mr Karaayvaz awarded the Principalโ€™s Award๐Ÿ† to Huda Hamied, Dr Inal awarded the Fellowship Award๐Ÿ† to Amy Jo Barry, and Mr Senol awarded the Dux Award๐Ÿ† to Tasneem Sulliman. Mrs Brandt offered a remarkable speech to her matriculants.

The class of 2022 paid tributes to Mr Kutlug and Mrs Costa for their enthusiasm in the teaching of their respective subjects and in particular for their endless dedication to the education of tomorrowโ€™s leaders.

The Valedictory speech done by Huda Hamied emphasised again the tenacity of class 2022 during the pandemic; and the altruistic commitment of educators to see them succeed.

During a very emotional Graduation Rose Ceremony๐ŸŒน, parents, family, and educators affirmed the graduates as well-equipped and resourced for the next new season of adulthood.

The Star College family would like to thank the parents for their sacrificial contributions for making the Valedictory Celebrations as special and memorable as possible and for their unwavering support during the education of their children.

You will forever be our hearts Class of 2022! Walk forward with faith and dignity, remembering your humble beginnings and amazing triumphs. We wish the class of 2022 all the best with their future endeavours.

The event was held physically for the first time in two years from 7 to 9 December at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg. The research conducted by the young scientists this year included issues that affect their daily lives, such as sport; their communities, improving the lives of people; issues that affect their schooling such as improving learning and memory; broader societal issues involving human interactions; and research addressing some of the crises we face nationally and globally

These 270 bright young minds have earned a spot at the Eskom Expo ISF after beating the competition at a series of regional finals. Afterwards they have been prepared by mentors to showcase their innovative projects to a panel of judges and industry experts. This year, Eskom Expo had a phenomenal increase in the number of projects by individuals and groups โ€“ growing from 1 329 in 2021 to 4 432 in 2022. A total of 3 465 girls and 2 146 boys took part in the regional expos.

During the last week of term 3, our Grade 9 learner, Darakhshaan Faki, along with English teacher Ms M. Khan, travelled to Rome, Italy to compete in the final round of the HIPPO Global 10th International English Olympiad. Along with numerous other Star College learners, Darakshaan competed in the qualifying rounds at school earlier this year, and was the only one of our learners who was invited to the final round in Italy.

In her category, S15, Darakhshaan competed against a dozen other learners. During the course of the competition, she completed a written exam, a comprehension exam, and a listening and speaking test. She also presented a formal speech. We are so proud of Darakhshaan, who managed to beat all her competitors - most of whom were at least years her senior - and managed to come first in her category, winning gold for herself and in doing so, scoring a fully funded TEFL course for Ms Khan.

After the competition, Darakshaan and Ms Khan had a couple of days to explore the city of Rome, colloquially known as the Eternal City. They had the opportunity to be led on a guided tour of the Vatican City, including the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. The highlight of this tour included a viewing of the incredibly preserved Sistine Chapel, one of the most well-known articles of Michelngelo's work. They also toured the Colosseum, Palatine Hill (on which Rome was formed), the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps. Most memorably, they had the opportunity to toss some coins into the Trevi Fountain, which, according to legend, should bring them back to Rome some time in the future.

โ€œI'd like to thank Ms Khan for her excellent guidance and constant care towards our student during this trip and a special thanks goes to Mrs Costa on behalf of our school for all the planning and hard work. Our star Darakshaan, You are appreciated! I think the trip was a wonderful experience for Darakshaan. I'd also like to thank her parents for their support.โ€ Mr O Karaayvaz- Principal

Term 3 Certificate Results at Star College Girl's High and Senior Primary
Star College had a special assembly at the Girlsโ€™ High and Senior Primary to celebrate the Top 3 learners of each class. The assemblies were exciting and learners cheered on their peers as their names were called out.

On Wednesday 12 October, Intermediate Phase held a special assembly to honour the top achievers for term three in each grade. A number of learners managed to keep their positions from term two, but a few very welcome surprises crept in, fostering the spirit of competition and conscientiousness that has become synonymous with our school.

We wish all our learners the best of luck for the final term of 2022.

We congratulate each learner and the educators and parents!

Grandparentsโ€™ Day at Star College
Grandparents are a familyโ€™s greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers and the keepers of traditions. Grandparents are the familyโ€™s strong foundation. Through their special love and care, grandparents keep a family close at heart. To honour them Star College Cape Town celebrated Grandparentsโ€™ Day on 27th and 28th September 2022.
The function started with welcoming the grandparents with poems and speeches prepared by our learners.
The learners then entertained the grandparents with enthralling dance performances. The general mood was one of exultation and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Both grandparents and learners enjoyed the delectable eats prepared for them.
Learners and grandparents were excited to partake in a mini photo shoot because as you know, a picture is worth a thousand words.
We were treated to some very wise and wonderful words of advice from a few of our beloved and special grandparents.
The learners were thrilled to leave with their grandparents after the event.
Our heartfelt thanks to the parents for their donations and to the educators for their unwavering assistance in preparing the learners for the successful event.
