YOUTH DAY🇿🇦 on the 17th of June 2026, we remembered the events of 16 June 1976. We honour the sacrifices and braveness of the youth of 1976. We commit to continue their legacy of standing up against injustices. LEAP Science and Maths Schools, students are following in the footsteps of 1976 youth by using their voices to speak up and solve problems faced by them in our society.

She said it better than we ever could.
“Your community shapes who you are and who you become. We come from a place where you see someone who wanted to be an engineer — but today he’s a drunkard. When you see people who had dreams but didn’t become who they wanted to be, you start fearing the same thing will happen to you. People project their fears, and what they faced, onto us— so we also start doubting ourselves. But when you are someone who studies at LEAP, that is a big deal. And they will say: ‘You think too much of yourself.’”
- One of our LEAP Crossroads students, addressing the barriers preventing success for her and her classmates.
This is exactly why the work matters. The Hands On Foundation and LEAP Schools exist to give students like her a different environment to grow into, one where ambition isn’t punished, and where dreaming big is the expectation, not the exception.

🖤🧡 Happy Youth Day | Usuku lwaBatsha | Letsatsi la Bacha
On 16 June 1976, the youth of South Africa stood up and said: enough. They marched not just against a system, they marched for a future. For the right to learn. For dignity. For the belief that where you come from should never determine how far you can go.
Fifty years on, that fire still burns.
At LEAP Science and Maths Schools, we carry that spirit into every classroom, every Saturday lesson, every extended school day, across nine schools, five provinces, and thousands of young people from communities that have always had the talent, but not always the opportunity.
Our learners are not just beneficiaries of someone else's sacrifice. They are the continuation of it.
They are the scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and leaders who are transforming their communities from the inside out, exactly as the Class of '76 dreamed they would.
To every learner, past and present: you are the reason this day still matters. Keep going. Keep dreaming. Keep LEAPing.

Cape Town AWS Career Day💙
On Friday, 15 May, students from LEAP 1 (Langa), LEAP 2 (Philippi Crossroads), and LEAP 7 (Paarl Mbelweni) walked through the doors of the Amazon Web Services AWS Cape Town office, and walked out transformed. 🌟
Career Day 2026 was everything we hoped it would be and more.
The AWS team put tremendous effort into planning a truly interactive and engaging day, and it showed in every moment. Our students were welcomed warmly before diving into a day filled with real-world career exploration:
✅ Multiple career paths explored, students got to engage directly with AWS staff to ask the questions that mattered most to them
✅ One-on-one career coaching & speed career guidance
✅ An exclusive office tour at AWS Cape Town
✅ Hackathon insights & the AWS SD Bursary presentation
✅ Group problem-solving challenges on real-world issues, accessibility, education, environment, health & wellness, community, and entertainment & technology
But the moment that stopped us in our tracks? Hearing from one of our very own LEAP Alumni. 🧡
She stood in front of our current students and shared her journey, from being a LEAP student, to earning an AWS bursary, to building a thriving career in tech. She didn't just inspire our students. She showed them what's possible when opportunity meets hard work.
To the incredible AWS Cape Town team, thank you. Thank you for the hours of planning, the energy you poured into making this day interactive and meaningful, and for treating our students like they truly belong in your world. Because they do.
This is why partnerships matter. This is why we do what we do.
The future is bright. And our students are ready. 🚀
