What I love about these performances is how much depth they show in South African sport beyond the names and teams we already know. These are teenagers going up against the best young athletes in the world and coming home with medals. Some of them are already producing performances that put them into serious senior company. We spend a lot of time talking about the future of South African sport. Well, some of that future is competing right now. I just think we should be paying a little more attention.

Congratulations to Daniel von der Heyden (2025W) on an outstanding performance at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where he finished 6th in the men’s decathlon with a remarkable 7,696 points, a new African U20 and South African U20 record!
Daniel produced a series of standout performances across the two-day competition at Hayward Field:

🥇 Shot Put (6kg): 16.05m — 1st place in the event
🦘 Long Jump: 7.17m — a new personal best and his first time clearing 7 metres
🏃 100m: 10.82 seconds
🏃‍♂️ 110m Hurdles: 14.49 seconds
🥏 Discus: 43.65m
🎯 Javelin: 57.68m — a personal best

His outstanding 7,696-point total secured 6th place overall and rewrote the record books as both an African U20 Record (AU20R) and South African U20 Record.

🏉 What a fantastic day at Bishops for the Interschools Alumni 7-a-side Tournament. There was plenty of competitive spirit on the field, as old boys from schools across the country enjoyed the festival.

Congratulations to Michaelhouse, who lifted the trophy and claimed the honours after a thrilling 17–12 victory over St Andrew’s in the final. 🏆

A huge thank you to all the referees, organisers, volunteers, supporters and players who helped make the tournament such a success.

🥈 Double silver for Michael Houlie and Team SA!

Congratulations to Michael Houlie (2018B), who touched the wall second in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke Final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing a silver medal for Team South Africa! 🇿🇦🏊‍♂️

Michael also helped Team SA to silver in the Mixed 4 × 100m Medley Relay, with the team setting a new Africa record in the process.

At this year’s Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA) Cape Town Section Long Service Awards ceremony, two ODs were recognised for milestones of service and membership. Andy Wood (1977G) was honoured for 50 years of membership of the MCSA. Andy is a former Head of the Club’s Search and Rescue team and has been actively involved in mountain rescue for many years.
Ivor Jardine (1954G & F) was recognised for an extraordinary 70 years of membership. Both continue to enjoy getting out on the mountain.
