Professor Ajay Kumar Mishra (MSc, MPhil, PhD, CSci, FRSC), is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, and an NRF B-Rated researcher with an internationally recognized reputation in sustainable materials science and nanotechnology. Recognized among the world’s Top 2% Scientists continuously since 2019, based on analyses by Elsevier’s Scopus database and Stanford University, Professor Mishra has established himself as a leading authority in advanced materials research. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and a Chartered Scientist (CSci), reflecting his significant contributions to scientific advancement and professional excellence. Professor Mishra’s research is dedicated to developing low-cost, high-performance materials for next-generation membrane technologies. His work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to clean water, sustainable industrial innovation, and responsible resource utilization

Prof. Lindiwe Khotseng from the Department of Chemistry is named a finalist in the prestigious NSTF-TIA Green Economy Award category of the NSTF-South32 Awards and is also awarded an NRF-FREF SARChI Chair. These achievements recognise her outstanding contributions to sustainable energy research, including the development of advanced materials and technologies for fuel cells, batteries, and waste-to-energy applications, as well as her commitment to research excellence, innovation, and postgraduate training in South Africa.
