We are delighted to officially welcome Ms. Sindisiwe Nkabinde to the Department of Accounting at the University of the Western Cape as a newly appointed staff member.

Ms. Nkabinde completed her articles at the AGSA’s Bloemfontein office, where she developed a strong commitment to accountability, transparency, and contributing to meaningful change through the responsible use of public funds. This experience reflects her passion for giving back to communities and supporting impactful service delivery.

Her decision to join UWC is rooted in the institution’s strong values of social justice, transformation, and student empowerment. She is deeply committed to using education as a tool to uplift and create opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds.

As a Financial Accounting lecturer, Ms. Nkabinde views accounting as more than just numbers—it is a powerful language that enables individuals to think critically, analyse situations, and engage meaningfully with the world. She is passionate about creating an inclusive learning environment where students feel supported, encouraged to ask questions, and able to connect concepts to real-world applications.

Her message to students is clear: focus on understanding rather than memorisation, embrace the challenges that come with learning, and believe in your ability to succeed. With discipline, consistency, and the right support system, success is achievable.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Nkabinde to the UWC community. We look forward to the positive impact she will make.

✨ Welcome to the team, Mrs Willemien Gertze! ✨

We are so excited to welcome Mrs Gertze to the Department of Accounting at UWC!

Her journey started at PwC Namibia in Windhoek, where she completed her articles after receiving a bursary in matric and gaining valuable experience through vacation work during her studies. From there, she spent 8 years lecturing in Namibia—making a real difference in students’ lives.

Mrs Gertze describes joining UWC as a personal calling, and her passion for Financial Accounting comes from the powerful impact her own lecturers had on her journey.

Her advice to students?
💬 “Always show up and give your best—but remember, you are not defined by setbacks and are worth more than any achievement.”

She is deeply motivated by her faith and the belief in Romans 8:28.

We are proud to have you with us, Mrs Gertze—welcome to the UWC family! 💙

An exciting and inspiring session for our PGDA students!

The Department of Accounting at the University of the Western Cape recently welcomed Nedbank for an engaging visit with our Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) students.

During the session, students learned more about Nedbank’s CA Training Programme and gained valuable insights into the journey of becoming a Chartered Accountant. They also had the opportunity to hear directly from professionals who have successfully walked the path and shared their experiences, advice, and career journeys.

Opportunities like these help prepare our students for a successful and future-focused career in the accounting profession.

A big thank you to Nedbank for investing in and inspiring the next generation of accounting professionals!

You didn’t come this far to only come this far. Think of all the late nights, number of pages read, and the weekends you’ve sacrificed. Now it’s time to trust in your preparation and YOURSELF.

YOU are capable, YOU are prepared, and YOU are resilient.

Take a deep breath, keep your eyes on the prize, and let your hard work shine through. The studying is done. The worrying is useless. The only thing left to do is SUCCEED.

Walk into the exam room knowing your hard work over the years has already built the foundation. Now, just go and lay the bricks.

You’ve got this exam! Goodluck for IAC!
