NOTICE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS: HEAD LICE AND HAIR HYGIENE
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to inform you that a number of cases of head lice have recently been identified among learners at school. Head lice are common among school-aged children and can spread easily through close contact and the sharing of personal items.
To help prevent the spread of head lice, we kindly request that all parents and guardians:
Check their child's hair regularly for signs of head lice or nits (lice eggs).
Ensure that hair is kept clean and well-groomed.
Keep long hair tied up or braided while at school.
Avoid sharing combs, brushes, hats, hair accessories, scarves, pillows, or towels.
Treat hair immediately if head lice are detected and follow the treatment instructions carefully.
Continue checking hair regularly after treatment to ensure all lice and nits have been removed.
Signs of head lice may include:
Frequent scratching of the scalp.
A tickling sensation on the scalp.
Small white or brown eggs (nits) attached to hair strands, especially behind the ears and near the neckline.
If your child is found to have head lice, please notify the school and begin treatment as soon as possible to help prevent further spread.
We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining good personal hygiene and ensuring a healthy learning environment for all our learners.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely,
School Management Team

Dear Parents and Guardians
Please note that the WCED has officially informed schools that all schools across the province will be closed tomorrow due to the severe weather conditions.
Jupiter Street Primary School will therefore be *closed tomorrow.* We encourage all families to remain safe, warm, and indoors where possible during this period of inclement weather.
We will communicate any further updates as soon as information becomes available.
Please take care and stay safe.

Dear Jupiter Community
This past week, Jupiter Street Primary School has experienced two veld fires in the bush area adjacent to our school: one last week and another today.
In both instances, the smoke posed a serious health risk to our learners and staff, and we had to initiate emergency evacuation procedures to ensure everyone’s safety. These evacuations, while necessary, are disruptive and result in a loss of valuable teaching and learning time.
We are deeply concerned about how quickly the fires spread and how close they came to our school buildings. As a school without a perimeter fence and without personnel to monitor the surrounding bush area, we rely on the support and partnership of our community to help protect this space.
We kindly appeal to all community members to exercise care and responsibility when near the bush area, and to avoid any activity that could unintentionally start a fire. Protecting our children, their learning time, and their safety is a shared responsibility.
We thank the Fire Station for their prompt responses each time and the community for your ongoing support and commitment to keeping our learners safe. Please help us create awareness by sharing this message 🧡
