The tactical world has developed a fascinating obsession with looking tactical.
The correct trousers. The correct belt. The correct holster. The correct red dot. Preferably a beard.
And enough Velcro attached to your body that, in a strong wind, you could stick yourself to a your tactical Toyota Hilux.
Then there is the language.
Everything is a “platform”. You don’t carry things, you “run” them. And apparently you cannot shoot seven rounds at cardboard without conducting a debrief about your “weapon system”.
Wonderful.
None of it interests me very much.
Because there is an enormous difference between shooting a target and engaging an enemy, determined to kill you or your family.
Which brings us to the idiot in this video.
Me.
Drawing a handgun from concealment. No red dot. No plate carrier. No battle belt.
Training to hit the enemy in the spine ( body, throat, head) . Because , why not ? Although under pressure it will not be that easy.
Just in ordinary clothing, with a concealed handgun.
Because that is how this particular idiot (me) spends most of his life.
If I could practically do it, I’d train in my best underpants and barefoot.
Because that is probably how I’ll look if three men come through my house at 02:00.
And I doubt they’ll wait politely in the passage while I find my tactical trousers, put on my ear protection and prepare the perfect time to draw.
Real violence is inconsiderate.
This is why I solely focuses on individual skill and cut out the noise.
I’m not interested in how someone looks, or sounds like on the range. Or which gun he is using. A gun is a gun. Point it, shoot it, end of story.
I’m interested in what remains when everything comfortable is stripped away.
Just you, your judgement, your skill, and someone who has absolutely no intention of letting you stay alive.
