It is with great sadness that WIZO Cape Town mourns the passing of our dear friend and incredible supporter, Marc Sternberg.

Marc’s love of golf and sport was legendary, but even greater was the energy, generosity and heart he brought to everything he did.

Five years ago, at the shiva for Grant Querido, Marc went to Donne – our WIZO Golf Day Queen – and, in true Marc fashion, announced: “You’re too old for this nonsense. I’m taking over with Adam, and we’ll do it. And we’ll call it the Grant Querido Classic Charity Golf Day.”

And that was Marc. Full of big ideas, enthusiasm and determination - and always ready to make things happen.

From his guidance to the incredible prizes and donations he helped secure, Marc threw himself wholeheartedly into making the Golf Day something special. Above all, he insisted that it should always be fun - a day that celebrated Grant’s joie de vivre and his somewhat tenuous relationship with the game of golf.

It was particularly special to have Marc’s son, Aaron, alongside him, supporting our annual Golf Day and its charitable purpose.

Marc gave so generously of his time, his support and himself, and WIZO Cape Town was incredibly fortunate to have him in our corner. He will be deeply missed.

Our deepest condolences go out to the entire Sternberg family.

May Marc’s memory always be a blessing.

With great sadness WIZO Cape Town mourns the passing of Marcia Parness, 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗜𝗭𝗢 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 and past President from 1990–1993, as well as Honorary Life President of the South African Zionist Federation.

Marcia dedicated so much of her life to WIZO, the Zionist movement and the community. Her leadership, commitment and legacy will always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

Our heartfelt condolences go to her family and loved ones.
May her memory be a blessing.

The war is still not over.

For many reservist families, that means another call-up, another spouse carrying the weight of home alone and another child missing a parent.

Liran has served more than 650 days in the reserves since October 7, in both the north and the south. Throughout those repeated absences and returns, he and his wife were also navigating a long diagnostic process for their son. Only recently did they learn that he is on the spectrum, bringing new understanding, but also another layer to a family reality already shaped by uncertainty and separation.

Even when a father returns home, the distance created by months of absence does not disappear overnight. Rebuilding closeness takes time.

At WIZO’s “A Bridge to Connection” father-child retreat, Liran and his son found space to simply be together and a community of families who understood exactly what they were going through.

“It gives both us as fathers and our children a sense of connection and the feeling of being seen.”

Because the families carrying this war still need to know that they are not carrying it alone.

As we prepare to welcome Rosh Hashanah, we reflect with immense gratitude on the love, generosity and support we continue to receive from our WIZO Cape Town community.

A historic partnership between WIZO Hadassim Youth Village and the Even Yehuda Local Council has blossomed into beautiful new spaces for our students 🌿

Together with Eli Bezalel, Director of WIZO Hadassim Youth Village; Michal Plesenberg Chayot, Principal of the high school; Anita Friedman, Chairperson of World WIZO; Matan Katzman, Mayor of Even Yehuda; and Yosi Knop, representative of Hadassim’s parents, we visited the newly renovated spaces, ready to welcome the students from their very first day of school.

The transformation includes new classrooms, advanced equipment to support higher-level studies, shaded seating areas, greenery and inviting places for students to meet and connect.

More than a campus upgrade, this is an investment in the students’ education, wellbeing and future. And as they said, this is only the beginning. 💛
