In November 2024, Lorenzo Monfardini walked across the graduation stage at the Federal University of Ouro Preto in Brazil with something unusual on his shoulder — a heavy gas cylinder. Dressed in his cap and gown, he stood out immediately, and many wondered why he chose to carry it.

It wasn’t for attention. It was a tribute.

Lorenzo had just earned his degree in production engineering, but he knew his success was built on years of hard work by his father. For 26 years, his father worked delivering gas cylinders — a physically demanding job that helped support the family and pay for Lorenzo’s education. Carrying the cylinder was Lorenzo’s way of showing the real weight behind his achievement.

The idea reportedly came from his mother, making the gesture a reflection of the entire family’s journey. When his father saw him, he was deeply emotional and proud.

The moment quickly spread online, touching many people. Lorenzo later shared that he simply wanted to honor his father and show that his success was not his alone.

His degree had his name on it — but the journey belonged to his whole family.
