TODAY’S WORD ON AFRICA DAY 🌍
Petrichor is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil.
The word is constructed from Greek πέτρα pétra, meaning "stone", and ἰχώρ īchṓr, which is the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
Given how dry the soil is and how rarely it rains there, this natural phenomenon is all the more marvelous in places like the Karoo.
