For Mandela Day, the International Hotel School was proud to partner with Jetsetting with Janet, MLT Car Hire & Tours, and the Department of Social Development Cape Town Local Office for a meaningful morning at the NOAH Centre in Woodstock.

Our students and staff came together to create and pack Jars of Hope filled with essential ingredients, love, and compassion for those in need. It was a beautiful reminder that hospitality is about so much more than service — it’s about uplifting communities, restoring dignity, and creating meaningful impact.

A special thank you to Minister Jaco Londt for joining us for the handover, and to all our partners for helping make this initiative possible.

67 minutes can spark change, but together we can create lasting hope. 💙

On 18 June 2026, 14 of our students from IHS Cape Town, attended the Cape Town Tourism Youth Event, hosted in partnership with Robben Island at the renowned Robben Island Museum in the V&A Waterfront. The event provided valuable insight into the history of Robben Island and life during the apartheid era, while also equipping students with practical networking and elevator pitch skills to help them maximise future career opportunities. Students further participated in a speed networking session with nine industry exhibitors, representing organisations ranging from Table Mountain Aerial Cableway to Diamond Works and other leading tourism stakeholders. Congratulations to our first-year students, Nathan Facoline and Smaile Kolela, who were lucky winners in the event's prize draw, with prizes sponsored by Groot Constantia and Diamond Works. A special thank you to Service Gurus for organising this inspiring youth development initiative and creating meaningful connections between students and industry professionals 👏🏻

Our Higher Certificate in Culinary Skills and Diploma 1 Hospitality Management and Professional Cookery with Kitchen Management students recently concluded their academic journey for Semester 1 at the International Hotel School with an unforgettable educational excursion to Asara Wine Estate.

The experience provided students with valuable industry insights as they engaged with Executive Chef Arek and his team, who expertly demonstrated the breakdown of a whole lamb, explaining the various cuts, the differences between lamb and mutton, and the importance of understanding meat quality and utilisation.

Students were also taken on an extensive tour of the property's Food and Beverage outlets and kitchens, where they gained first-hand exposure to professional hospitality operations. Highlights included learning about coffee roasting processes, exploring the pastry kitchen, discovering the art of chocolate work, and understanding Asara's commitment to sustainability through zero-waste initiatives. The visit further exposed students to meat aging techniques and the importance of the nose-to-tail philosophy in reducing waste and maximising product utilisation.

A sincere thank you to the GM Charl Schoeman and his team at Asara Wine Estate for sharing their knowledge, passion, and expertise with our students. This excursion served as a fitting conclusion to the academic component of their studies.

As our students now embark on their Work Integrated Learning journey, we encourage them to continue exploring, learning, and growing within the hospitality industry. The future is yours to create!
